I'll tell you what though. I'm glad that when I was ill a while back I phoned the doctor and was taken straight in for blood tests and an ECG and wasn't charged a penny. I'm glad I can call my doctor at any time and won't get charged. I'm glad when a colleague collapsed at work he was taken straight to hospital, kept in for two days and wasn't charged a penny. I'm glad when a friend of mine got cancer and was treated for a year before recovering he didn't get charged a penny. I'm glad that when the women of this country have babies they are not charged a penny, including prenatal and postnatal care. I'm glad that when people fall ill the last thing they have to worry about is how much it will cost them, whether it will bankrupt them, whether their insurance will cover it or how much their excess will be. I'm glad that when Boris Johnson was ill recently he received excellent care in a NHS hospital. I'm glad it doesn't matter whether you are company director or unemployed, live in a mansion or on the street you will still be entitled to the same healthcare.

Why? You think you should be given a better chance of living if you've got more money?

Explain that. I don't know what you've been reading.

Merry Christmas.

A couple of things on this long thread.

1. The initial first wave took place primarily in New York City, so yes IC units were filled to the brim there so much so a ship was sent there, and tents were set up in Central Park. In fact most elective surgeries were cancelled. I had one friend whose wife had breast cancer and could not get her surgery there until months later. Big issue in first wave with PPE.

2. The second wave during the summer struck more across the country except the upper plain states, so pandemic patients could be spread out. Oklahoma was even shipping IC patients to other states during this phase.

3. The third wave is hitting everywhere including the plain states and California hard. With the plain states getting hit hard, South Dakota is shipping cases to Minnesota hospitals. This article below details the situation. Apparently the issue now is human resources. Rural hospitals while having beds do not have the staff or resources to handle the Covid patients needs, nor the equipment. Urban hospitals are pressed for beds and referring or sending people to go to other states. Nurses are working at times round the clock and worn out.

But this link from a Gannett owned paper in Sioux Falls, SD the Argus Leader details this if interested:

Good to see we are continuing to be able to cope with this massive surge.

Key word being cope.

Note I did not say "having an easy time with."

I know one has to be VERY SPECIFIC here with what words they use...

PS. It's actually quite surprising, healthcare being able to cope with this massive surge, given how frightened I was in the spring, with what I was being told on the news. Never thought we'd be able to handle case load totals, as a nation, like what we are seeing lately.

Bravo to whomever is responsible for getting us "ready enough" to handle such a massive and unexpected surge.

FINALLY....something is starting to give....

Bodies pile up, patient care falters as covid-19 devastates LA County hospitals

https://triblive.com/news/world/bodi...nty-hospitals/

And Los Angeles, California of all places....site of perhaps the strictest lockdowns in the country...

So once again, lockdowns DO NOT work...

Newsome should have used the Cuomo strategy, get as many of the vulnerable exposed/infected as fast as you can.

There is NO LOCKDOWN IN CALIFORNIA.

just because the governor makes a proclamation does not make it so. Local and county authorities are openly defying his orders. Stores are open. Restaurants are open. Casinos are open. Gas stations are open. Nothing prevents me from leaving my home and traveling anywhere.

There is NO LOCKDOWN.
