Will take charge was pretty good. Just missed in the Breeders Cup.

Yep. Will Take Charge was solid. Grew a crap ton in the summer of his 3YO campaign and was merely a whisker from winning one of the best BC Classic finishes of all time.

$3.9 million in winnings. 21 (7-6-2). Hit the board in 11 Graded Stakes races and won 5 G1/G2 races in his career.

Got it down to Catholic Boy, Bravazo or Tenfold for the win now.

I think Mendelssohn might win/place in the BCC, so this will be a much needed race to acquire form. (Travers winners rarely win the BCC so holding on to him for that race instead of this one.)
IMHO, Gronk will not be same @10F as 12F, can't back him.
Wonder Gadot for me would be a little like betting Noble Indy in the Derby. Profile tilts to speed more than stamina which I never like for 10F, despite trainer's claim she is a bonafide 10F horse.

I'm confused how Mendelssohn could even be a possibility in the BC Classic without a win in this race.

uh, the same way Bayern did?

"this race"? I don't over-rate the Travers. Few horses who win this race ever go on to win the BCC. I much prefer other races like JCGC, or even the PA derby etc. .

Drosselmeyer lost at SAR and won the BCC as well.
Curlin won (the Haskell) @ SAR and lost the BCC.

Are you saying this is the most important race, or are you saying I should consider Mendelssohn for the win here?

Mendelssohn has run two awful races in the states.

Two, really awful races. And people keep making excuses for him.

He gets 2nd, or 3rd, 4th or even 7th in here, are you fully on board with a BC Classic invite?

The list of horses who have done more on dirt in American racing than Mendelssohn is basically every single horse that has hit the starting gate in the States.

he was always pretty good, I had him in the smarty jones and rebel at my home track when he was still paying well. In the Travers he was still high odds, and in the Jim Dandy went back to ridculously high odds. Took quite a while for people to "catch on" to him......that was really what was so surprising. He was already well into his 4th year and 2nd full year of racing that his odds FINALLY went down for the PA Derby. Never could figure out how he could do so well and still be going off at over 10-1 odds all the time.

What can I say, I like the horse.

Mendy may have time to get another race in. This one he NEEDS.

I am going to use Tenfold today and hope the good one shows up. Looking for a little bit of a price and may get all of the 8-1 with interest from a lot of people on Wonder, Gronk, Vino, Mendel, Catholic and of course Good Magic. Some really tough races to handicap today but that does make for some exciting races to watch. And just a small correction on Clicknow - I do believe the Haskell is always at Monmouth. (Curlin reference). Good luck today everyone. May all horses and riders come back safe and sound but may mine finish ahead of yours.

Hat tip to NYRA. The Travers day card is fantastic. 13 races, 6 consecutive G1's, races 6-11, then for good measure a G2 in race 12. Raving Beauty's in that one. All day long, City of Lights, Abel Tasman, Tenfold, Bravazo, Catholic Boy, Channel Maker, Engage, Firenze Fire, Gronkowski, Wonder Gadot, Wow Cat... on and on... crazy good.

I'll see what the board looks like, #5 No Dozing, in the G1 Forego 9th, could upset at 8-1 or better. 12 ML. Different horse since gelded and now 4YO. Can he add 5-8 points to last 100 beyer? That's the question.

It is a special day Fuss. No doubt about it.

Spring Quality in the Sword Dancer and Wonder Gadot to take the Travers.

Now you know which two to throw out.
