Previously raced misidentified as...
There is a horse running in the 2nd race on Friday at Parx #7-Strawberry Blush. Right before its May 17, 2010 start it says "Previously raced misidentified as Glitter's Forum"...
Any info on how this would come about? I mean it's pretty self-explanatory but does anyone know about this specific case or how often this occurs? Did they have the same tattoo numbers?

Was she a first-timer two year old in that race in 2010? Name changes of horses are allowed up until their debut as a 2 yo. I don't have pp's to look at.

Looks like she was a 5 year old with 21 starts.

Strange, I don't see anything about it on DRF or Bloodhorse.com

The only other case I remember like this, Jerry and Dale Romans ran a horse named Blairwood when they were supposed to run Briarwood on Derby day and made a huge score. Somehow they caught them, but the tickets were cashed at that point! I think this is why you never see a Maiden race on Derby day anymore.

I think it would be folly to assume that CDI makes wagering product decisions on the corporation's most profitable day of the year with the public's best interest as the prime motivation.

Romans was suspended for almost a year, they must have found something. I think the horse paid 70 dollar or so.

Not really, the first race on Derby Day May 4, 1991 was a MSW won by Spectaculardynasty at 33.5 to 1.

It's a strange case. Jerry Romans did get suspended for 10 months for running Briarwood instead of Blairwood. However, after Churchill Downs put out a press release accusing Romans of putting a ringer in the race, Romans sued them for libel and won, so at least one court believed Romans made an honest mistake.
He's not alive to ask at the present time.
And of course this had nothing to do with whether or not there were maiden races on Derby Day after that.

Hmm, the first race on Derby Day, one year after the Blairwood/Briarwood incident (May 6, 1989) was a MSW won by Abaco Island.
If the folks at CD were scared away from running maiden races on Derby Day it was by Spectaculardynasty winning at 33-1 (the only win from four starts for this NY then PA sire) three years after the 35-1 "Briarwood" race. That probably generated a conspiracy theory or two. There wasn't a maiden race on the Derby card from 1992-1999.
Thanks, BIG49010. I didn't remember the maiden ban. Interesting stuff.
