They were both related to the dirt/grass transition on a curve.

I'll say this, while the dirt track has been noticeably slower than usual, the turf track has been lightening fast. That can't be good for the horses for that transition.

That’s your opinion. I don’t happen to agree.

Arms Runner took a bad step. It happens. Maybe it was because of the transition to dirt but he’s handled that particular course well in the past.

In the 8th, the horse that threw the jock had a horse come over into her path and she clipped. It was after the dirt crossing. Again, this kind of stuff happens in racing. The only reason anyone noticed today is because of what has happened the last few months.

I know this was more about being “right”, but how right were you since you weren’t aware they’ve been running 5F turf races already for months?

FWIW one of the most gruesome breakdowns I have ever seen was River Drummer going skidding across the slop 30 years ago in a 6 1/2 furlong downhill race.

Those sprinters hit that dirt at top speed, unlike the 10, 12, and 14 furlong horses.

Well if the tracks official position is the horse took a bad step, PETA will want to ban nails in shoes! And Belinda would prolly consider it. Just saying...

BTW it's already on the scrolls on most stations - sports and newz.

The hill races always carry extra risk.

The options that remain for the horsemen and for the track management of Santa Anita are dwindling and are mostly bad. We desperately needed to go a few weeks before the 23rd fatality inevitably occurred.

Call the developers now, no horse track can survive this pressure. I like the sport but it's just not important enough to politicians qnd the 3conomy.

Well......that figures.
TSG and the horsemen deserve all the heat they're going to catch at this point.

They ran down the hill when it had rained so much the dirt was slop? They take he race off the hill if there is any moisture now.

The reality of the situation is there is going to be a 24th. And a 25th, etc, etc.

Horses breakdown. It’s the worst part of the game but it is never not going to happen. On every surface they breakdown.

I’m shocked to see a board for horseplayers and fans who are so over reactive to what is happening to want to see the hill races be done away with. Did I miss all of the threads calling for an end to hill races last year. Or the year before?

What about steeplechase?

River Drummer was the reason they changed that.

So how does this have anything to do with what happened yesterday?

Over the last 3 racing days they ran 8 races down the hill and zero at 5F.

That has nothing at all about being able to watch a race and determining what happened.

I know what they’ve run. I actually follow the track.

So what is your point?
