I am only remotely familiar with Japanese racing.
Back in 2002 I was doing a consulting gig for a start up Japanese "Whale" group.
I can tell you about the downloads - which were 14,000 fields spread over 12 files. (Or it might have been 12,000 fields over 14 files, but same difference really.)
All the fields were necessary because each field was in more than one language.
But the bad news was that the HEADINGS & FIELD DESCRIPTIONS were only in Japanese!
This was to force the westerners to hire someone who could read the native language.
As for the printed PPs, they were, as I recall, very symbol-heavy.
BTW, it was an amazing place and a wonderful trip for me. Completely coincidentally, it was at the time of the Soccer World Cup in Yokohama.
That's how I wound up in the 6th row (20 yard line) at the finals.
