I very strongly suspect that very much of the flap over Trump's winning the presidency is that the political establishment (which includes Republicans, of course) was counting on a very willing, eager and vocal Nurse Ratchet to lay the fourth pillar to Socialism, which would have been gun confiscation. Or at the very least lay all the groundwork during the 2016 term for outright confiscation during her 2020 term, or very close thereafter.

I don't see any national action in this direction any time in the near future. I think the gun grabbers have come to the same conclusion. That is why they have shifted their focus to the state and local level. Like the situation in Boulder, CO, above. Or the chipping away at gun rights in NJ:

The state Assembly voted Monday to pass six bills to make New Jersey's already strict gun laws even tougher amid the national outcry for more gun control in the wake of the deadly high school shooting in Florida.

Lawmakers did so even as hundreds of people descended upon the state's capital to protest Monday.

The statewide proposals -- all sponsored by Democrats -- include reducing the number of rounds allowed in a magazine from 15 to 10, banning armor-piercing bullets, strictly defining that residents must show a "justifiable need" to obtain a permit to carry a handgun, expanding background checks for private gun sales, and making it easier to seize weapons from people deemed to pose a threat to themselves or others.

Colorado used to be a fairly pro-gun state, but all that changed shortly after a shooting in an Aurora, CO movie theater. While the killer was caught and isn’t a risk to the public anymore, that didn’t mean anti-gun forces didn’t seize on the opportunity.

Since then, the state has seen a progression of anti-gun incrementalism.

My personal conspiracy theory:

U.S. gun control/citizen disarmament is a hard nut to crack overtly, obviously; therefore, covert preparation is the key.

The dark side is setting up the seemingly growing number of mass killings and then letting the people, themselves, scream for "anti-gun incrementalism" until, sooner or later, the mission is realized...an unarmed citizenry accomplished by the citizenry. Then, watch the dark side come to light with an alarming transformation the likes of which this country has never experienced.

I have a business associate who lives about 80 miles from there. Has a house there. He flies a jet in and out of the area. He is a automotive exec here in Houston. I mentioned the Boulder gun story to him last week. He was unaware. He hit the roof.

He’s talking about closing five dealerships and moving out of the area after reading the story. I think he’s semi serious too. I’ll see him again in about two weeks. Can’t wait to see what he has to say.

Hillary would have pushed very hard for this -- and at the most opportune time (not letting any good crisis go to waste and all that rot). All she would have had to do was wait for the next mass shooting.

You have forgotten that she was hawking some pretty radical stuff about guns prior to the campaign. During the campaign, she backed off, no doubt to show everyone what a good little moderate she was.

Welcome to the party. This has been in motion for 30 years. The US population, just as the Canadians virtually did, will ultimately disarm themselves in order to keep guns out of the hands of the "bad, angry people".

The meaning of the 2nd amendment is clearly a mistrust of government and the power of the people to protect themselves from that government. That has been so twisted up in the last decade because established media is adamant that we, the people, don't need to be protected from our government. We must need and embrace our government as the primary focus of each and every one of us.

Since we'll be fighting robots soon, I suggest looking into fiber laser guns and rifles that will be used to "blind" enemy bots and other combatants....They still need more work but the Chinese have already started using them..
