Country in horse's name

I'm curious if anyone strips off the country at the end of a horse's name in datafiles, results files or scratch files? Is it safe to say that once it is there for a horse, it will always be there?

For example:
La Sardane (FR)
Ficanas (GB)
Thousand Oaks (FR)
Ohio (BRZ)
Desert Stone (IRE)

I did that years ago and have regretted it. I have 628 names on a list that have been duplicated after stripping the country.
