I actually think it is going to turn out to be very important that William Hill is in NJ to keep everybody honest, otherwise it might have been amateur hour through and through.

Big bettors will assuredly open an account with every sports book and shop lines.

I keep checking in with William Hill folks in NJ and in Las Vegas...they tell me I am on the list and will be informed immediately when the mobile/online release is nearing. I will pass it along as soon as I know.
Thats the good thing with Jersey's law. LOTS of competition. Lots of options to place an on-line sports wager.

and it wont be just the big bettors who will open an account with all the online companies and price shop. It will be everyone. Its like in the UK with the horse books at the tracks. you shop around for the best price on your horse. Its great. no one is stuck with a book that doesnt give good prices.

competition makes the prices better. Fanduel will die on the vine unless they correct their prices. Betfair aint a stupid company.

Is there a thread here about how the possibility of sports betting is progressing in states that don't have it yet? Maybe a few insiders could give some input. From what I read West Virginia is getting close, but nothing going on in Virginia. I am assuming someone at Mountaineer or Charles Town would know something. Should a new thread be started or could you point me to an existing one? I am like 120 miles from CT, 350 from MNR, 240 from Penn National, 300 from MTH, but don't want to deal with NJ traffic. I can't even find good info on Colonial Downs 60 miles away other than they are going to have historic horse race betting coming soon to which I say "Who the hell cares?"

The following link will take you to a legislation tracker. I used it when Jersey was still in the early stages. Hope you guys get it soon.

Thank You! Monmouth is about as far away as Laughlin, Nevada used to be when I lived in Southern California, but going back roads and traveling off hours it was 260 miles of never hitting the brakes. I went through New Jersey once and that was enough for me traffic wise. It is not the distance to get to Monmouth it is the rough 3 wide trip I do not want.

If what I read from your link is accurate and all goes as planned all the race tracks and casinos in West Virginia will have sports betting possibly by the upcoming football season. Do we have a PA member who is a Charles Town (only 120 miles from me) employee to shed some light on that?

All these UK based companies have a history offering sports including US sports.

They also have a history of limiting or outright rejecting bets from anyone they think may be a winner. If there isn't any player protection built into the legislation, then examples like the one earlier will be incredibly commonplace.

Some of the lines at the moment may be a bit of self-protection as they don't know who they are playing and may not be ready to manage the offering on some of the lesser markets.

However it needs to be known these companies aren't interested in making a book or managing an event. They are purely player focused and will do everything they can to stop winners playing with them.

What traffic?

The Turnpike south of the E/W split is the finest stretch of road in the NE Corridor!

Yes you will avoid North Jeresy traffic and most Philly traffic so it won't be too bad. Delaware would probably be best for him right now.

I went to Niagara Falls then pretty much traveled pretty much straight across then went south through New Jersey to Aqueduct. I could not tell you the roads, I just followed the Garmin. I used to Live in Southern California and once made a commute from close to Santa Anita into East Los Angeles during rush hour for a good year. I found the New Jersey, NYC/Long Island traffic the worst I have ever seen. Maybe I took a bad route through New Jersey or someone is being sarcastic.

I was definitely being sarcastic with the "what traffic!" comment (I live on the Jersey Shore). But I do think the Turnpike is pretty good except for the few bottlenecks you hit. Certainly it is the best stretch of 95 in any of the NE Corridor states. Going to Aqu is a bitch especially through Staten Island and on the Belt.

If you did at the right time from your neck of the woods and listened/observed traffic reports Mth wouldn't be a bad trip for you. You could even take the Cape May-Lewes car ferry which would leave you about 105 miles on the Parkway to the Mth exit.
