Miss Matzoball Returns Quiickly to Mt Verrnon at Belmont

Hi..

This is Elliott, the owner and breeder of Miss Matzoball, a 4 year old filly that is running on Monday, in the Mt. Vernon Stakes in Belmont.

This is a very quick turn-around for her - but our trainer Roy felt that she was both quite ready and up after her race last Saturday at Pimlico (where she finished 4th in the Very One Stakes - 5 furlongs.

And, this is a New York Race - going one mile (a longer stretch) for her - that we thought would be a good opportunity for her.

Her normal jockey, Javier C, is in California for the weekend - so we have Kendrick Carmuche - who Roy - as a jockey for the longer turf.

While we would normally wait more time between races, sometimes the opportunity and window and horse condition says go for it.

Miss Matzoball is looking great after the race at our barn in Saraotga and will head down to Belmont on Sunday for the race on Monday.

We will keep our friends on PA up to date as the race quickly approaches.

Thanks for the good regards

Elliott

Really interesting to see the background of why the horse is in the race Monday. Good luck Monday!

Miss Matzoball is a New York bred and the Mount Vernon Stakes is for NY-breds only. She's raced against open company in her last five starts.

Breeder Award is Cool

As we are her breeder - by our mate Miss Matzo - there is a nice award to our Stable if she comes in the money too.

It is likely that she will run in NY Stakes races in the coming months - especially since we and her live in Saratoga Springs

When you aim at a stakes race there is a couple step process:

- nomination
- then look at the nomination list
- calculate if your horse is likely to be accepted by history
- see which other nominated ones might run
- choose a jockey
- decide if you actually enter (which we did early this morning)
- take a look at final entry list and see the nature of the field

A multi step process with many chats with Trainer and Owner

Personally I always thought 7 furlongs was the distance that would be perfect for this filly, was any consideration given to taking another 10 days and pointing for the Intercontinental at Belmont? Think that might be the only stake for older F&M on the turf at 7f in NY during the entire year...and actually come to think of it, does any other track in the US even have one turn 7f turf races?

Either way best of luck in her races, she should be very competitive in these NYB spots & she impressed me very much with her ability in her recent shorter efforts.

What a cool, deep field for this race. Good luck and safe trip to Miss Matzoball.

Your horse got stuck on the worst part of the turf course last time. You're due for some better luck and a nice win.

As the day goes on - we are always looking at the actual field and also alternatives like The Intercontinental as our friend mentioned. She had a great exercise this morning in Saratoga and we will be finalizing our plans later today with our trainer. Thanks for your perspectives

Also - watch for her two half sisters (both by Giralamo) who will be racing in Belmont / Saratoga:

- Kinky Sox - a yery "alpha girl" filly
- Moonshine Cate - coming back after some time off to strengthen a hind ankle

Her mom - Miss Matzo pops out cool fillies. We also have a Proud Citizen and Gio Pointe growing up now as a weaning and yearling. And she is pregnant by Lookin at Lucky

Miss Matzoball

not a horse to Pass-over

love the breeding on the dam, perfect for the graas.

Ironically your user name is similar to one of my trainers,
Kate Demasi; if I'm not mistaken kate trained some of the offspring
of the sire.

Good Luck!

Wink Shipping the Horse and Owner to Belmont

One of the elements of racing at Belmont while using satbles in Saratoga Srings is the use of one of the NYRA horse shuttle trucks that run in both directions every day,

So, tomorrow AM - Miss Matzoball and one of her grooms will ship the 145 miles from Saratoga to Belmont - early in the day.

She will be stalled at Belmont and our trainer Roy will head there as well.

She will be walked on Sunday afternoon and have a light exercise on Monday am.

We are looking forward to this run - her first at a mile on turf - and with a different jockey.

Scratches can always be made in a Stakes Race until close to the race - but we are heading there with good hopes.

Finally, there is also the assembly of friends and family when racing in a big race. Each track has a different level of "hospitality" for owners that are bringing horses for $100k+ races. Some seats in a dining room, some passes for friends (beyond our owners and TOBA) licenses and sometimes a free program,

It is intriguing to we how this differs from track to track. Like most owners, we are pretty self sufficent. The most important is that the horse is handled with care and safety and that she and the jockey have safe and good rides,

Onward ...

Question Here Comes The Rqin :(

Well, the Tropical Storm seems headed to NYC on race day on Monday when we have entered our horse Miss Matzoball

More twists and decisions. There are several options that may evolve:

- Very Wet Turf
- Moves to the Dirt
- Small Possiblity of NYRA Canceling the Day - if there is a major storm

Options 1 or 2 change the plan and could alter our decisions

Trainers and Owners obsess over hour by hour forecasts the 24 hours before to try to "guess" on situation

Stay tuned. It would be sad to mess up several NY Turf Races but that's weather

yeah, forecast for tomorrow is not promising. I would say 6am to noon would be the worst of it, but afternoon won't be sunny either.
