It seems corny now but The Longshot with Harvey Korman and Tim Conway was funny.

The 1st Saturday in May is a pretty good docu-drama. The Dale Romans segments are something else and his son is a riot.

A couple of old black and white films come to mind:
Wall of noise (1963) Much of it filmed at Hollywood Park.
The Killing (1956) Not strictly about racing, a "perfect crime" film about robbing a racetrack. Bay Meadows was used for location shots.

I know it's a push, but the scene from Easy Money when Rodney Dangerfield is trying to get in a bet at the last minute is beyond funny !!

For me, it's the scene when Nicky goes over the fence of the outer rail to beat the crap out of the harness driver who stiffed the race.
"GO GET HIM, NICKY!!"

Top of the list...'Let it Ride'...I get the DVD out several times a year...and it makes me miss the good old days.
Phar Lap
Casey's Shadow (even though it's QH's) The way they filmed the final race scene...slow motion and great music...gives me goosebumps just typing about it.
Seabiscuit... The newest version...despite some really corny parts, great movie.
1st. Saturday in May (docu)
Lost in the Fog (docu)

"Wise Guys" - Danny DeVito
This one's a roar as well.
Wise Guys
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wise_Guys_(film)
" Italian American Harry Valentini and his Jewish friend and next-door neighbor Moe Dickstein occupy the bottom rung of Newark Mafia boss Anthony Castelo's gang. Making a living by doing Castelo's lowest jobs (such as looking after his goldfish or trying out bullet-proof jackets) the two men dream of opening the world's first Jewish-Italian delicatessen.
They accompany Frank "The Fixer" Acavano, one of Castelo's top men and a violent psychopath, to Meadowlands Racetrack to place a bet on Castelo's behalf. Valentini changes horses at the last minute because his boss usually bets on the wrong one."
