Zippy Chippy
http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-raci...paign=20100421
Blowen is trying to get him to Old Friends...hope he succeeds...his owner really doesn't want to let him go...which is understandable...but the old horse sure would life the life at Old Friends.

He scared off all the competition at Batavia, and no ball players want to try him again. Might as well retire .

Serioulsy though, he deserves a wonderful retirement...and his owner/trainer seems to adore the horse, and refused to drop him down any lower in the claiming ranks... I think he'd be a very popular visitor attraction at Old Friends.

The
attachment is not to the horse. The owner wants more money for letting the horse go. He is still hoping he can make some money from a movie deal. Instead of giving the horse a great place to retire this moron is holding out for more money. Please don't anyone be fooled into thinking that the horse's best interest are on the owner's mind.

I saw Zippy "run" at the Northampton Fair a number of times, including the near win when he lost to Black Rifle by just a few feet. In his earlier days, the Zippster may have been able to win against very cheap maiden claimers, but Felix was terrified that someone would claim him.
I still have my official Zippy Chippy t-shirt somewhere. I think it has shrunk with age.

Not so sure about the adoration part...this is the same guy that ran him TWICE on a harness track in one of those absurd exhibitions. By accident I was there the day he ran at Freehold, and there wasn't any accomodation made to the racing surface...still hard as a rock.
Makes me think this is just about money.

well now...brogan & bushwick...your replies are an eye opener ... so I guess that Track Collector is also in the dark...looks like the only reason the owner didn't want to drop Zippy further down was because he didn't want to loose his aspirations of a movie deal...
I somehow missed that exhibition at the Hreness track...as if this old hoss is a circus performer...shame, shame, shame.
He has turned down $5,000 from Old Friends as payment for hte horse...now I bet Blowen is offering that much because he is really concerned for Zippy...and now I see he should be.
Well...thanks for the heads up...and let's hope that this turns out well for the Zipster.

Good to hear Too bad he didn't get at least one win during his days of running.

This horse has been exploited for way too long.

I would agreee, although I'm sure the guy is attached to the horse. The story says he didn't enter in a claiming event to protect against another trainer claiming him. Partly right. Back when the horse was on the fair circuit, several animal groups had money ready for a trainer to claim him so they could retire him and stop the circus the owner was creating.

I'm not convinced it is a money thing (at least this time). I think the owner looks at Zippy as a family member, AND, perhaps even more important, he enjoys the attention that Zippy brings him. Selling Zippy to the new home causes Felix to lose both of these personal benefits, which is why he may have trouble completing the deal.

That's another interesting tid bit to this story...why is it they leave out these important facts...if they are facts...after all these posts, I can only beleive that it's true.
Again...I only hope it works out to the benefit of this courageous old horse.
