Favorite TV Shows
I don’t think this has been discussed here. At least not recently.
Tell us what your all time favorite TV shows are, and tell us one or two current shows you think might achieve that status.
Not news shows or sports shows, I’m talking about dramatic or comedic series. They can be broadcast, cable or streaming.
Here are mine-in no particular order.
Big Bang Theory. A show about friendship and relationships, with characters you can really like.
Battlestar Galactica. The Edward James Olmos version. They took an average Sci Fi series and turned it into a masterpiece with complex characters, an evolved enemy and intense action.
The Wire. An intense, disturbing look at an American city-Baltimore-from five different points of view.
The Walking Dead. Zombies are but a small part of this series. It is the study of the living, facing unimaginable dangers, finding hope in hopeless times, and trying to not only survive, but flourish.
I just started watching a show called Mrs. Davis. It’s about a supposedly benevolent AI that control the world for the benefit of mankind. But all is not as it seems. Major characters include Simone, who is a nun, the pope, and Jay, also known as Jesus-yes, that Jesus.

Retro.
All good shows. I never watched Dark Shadows, but understand it was ahead of it’s time.

Of all time?
1. The Carol Burnett show
Funniest show on TV ever.
2. Star Trek
The original
3. All in the Family
4. Seinfeld
5. Frasier
When I was a kid it was The Lone Ranger and Sky King. (Why I learned to fly)
I suppose I should have put Have Gun-Will Travel in there. Paladin was my hero.

I thought the Sunday evening programming from that time period was superb, what was it Bonanza then Ed Sullivan, I spy, there was something from Patrick Mcuewan. All the best programs on 3 free channels with rabbit ears.

Never watched initial runs of Gunsmoke.
Totally into it now. Great dialogue and trash talking between Festus and Doc. Festus may be my favorite all time TV character.

I just watched Gunsmoke Season 9 Episode 2 where Ken Curtis (Festus) plays the villain, Kyle Kellie. Check that one out.

Lots of old timey stuff here. That’s fine. Your favorite is your favorite. I enjoyed many of those shows back in the day.
Nonetheless, this is truly the Golden Age of Television. And the reason is cable and streaming, where you can address adult themes in an adult manner. I’m talking about shows like The Wire, The Sopranos, Deadwood, The Expanse, Westworld, etc.
