Is the jobs report glowing from top to bottom? Nope. Is it still broadly positive, with lots of upbeat data? Yep.

Those who aren't pleased with the latter, or even refuse to acknowledge it, obviously hate America.

Before You Dance a Jig About the New Job Stats, Here’s A Quick Jolt Back to Reality

Quote:
June was the 49th out of the last 50 months where the amount of discouraged folks, those who are no longer actively seeking employment, was greater than the number who found new jobs. These people are not counted in the unemployment rate.

I will accept your numbers for the sake of discussion. July 2009 to June 2014 is 5 years. Rounding your number to 6 million new jobs in 5 years, that is 1.2 million jobs a year, or 100,000 a month. We need 150,000 new jobs a month just to keep up with population growth. We are losing ground at an ever increasing rate.

I refuse to acknowledge that the loss of 523,000 full-time jobs and an increase of 275,000 people involuntarily working part-time, while wanting full-time, is upbeat.

We have not even addressed what the difference in earnings and benefits is, say on an hourly basis, between a lost full-time job and a gained part-time job.

Go back to July 2009-the official end of the Great Recession-and you will see that we have added 5,798,000 jobs. The number of full time jobs added in that five year period exceeds the number of part time jobs 20-1.
It is a total waste of time telling them there is economic improvement. Ronald Reagan could announce on FOX, things are getting better and he would be called a communist

hcap, you are wrong and while I expect you will follow party dogma, even you have to realize those numbers are created to make them say what the administration wants,....which has no relation to the truth.

Consider this, Scott Walker gave almost $1B back to the people to stimulate the economy and even he says we are still short, not double digit, but short.

What have the other governors done? Do any of them have a surplus? How many are at 4%, (break-even)?

You are saying our national average is 6%?

I find BO's numbers, at bare minimum, doubtful.

I spent two hours last night discussing the "state of the economy" with a friend in NY who has been out of work for 18 months. Lost an $85k gig as a stock analyst in a downsize and cannot get hired at Home Depot or anywhere else because he is over-qualified.

Yep. The economy is fine, right?

Surprised this old chestnut took so long to pop up.. any time positive numbers are released: "They're fake! Obama's lying!" Anytime negative numbers: "See? Obama sucks!"

So what about the jobs report did you like? C'mon, I know there's some good stuff in there. Let's talk about what you're pleased with..

There is economic improvement. But it is in spite of the policies of this administration, not because of them.

Years of uncertainty about the employer mandate, including several illegal delays by Obama, are a major restraint on new hires. Because of uncertainty about government policy about taxes and rules and regulations, businesses are not investing in new plant and equipment. Large corporations are making good profits, but instead of using the money to expand, many are using it to prop up their stock prices by buying back their own shares. Corporations with large cash holdings overseas won't bring the money back for the same reasons.

The economy is improving, but would improve a lot more and a lot faster if the private sector did not feel that this administration has created a toxic environment for business.
