Sports betting is inevitable... it doesn't take much creativity to read between the lines of what's been said over the past few months. It won't happen overnight, but the leagues recognize it has momentum and is a revenue opportunity for them and the states.

Real legitimate polling will take place and the pro gambling forces hope it's in and stays positive. Other form of momentum will be looked upon to gain support.

After that I really have no idea what will happen. A favorable federal court ruling could be a huge positive and what NJ and other states need. A negative one and it could be a huge momentum changer in reverse.

Let me throw in only Adam Silver is supporting this every other league is against it. But if they can get revenue that compares to naming a stadium lots of owners will jump on board. The NBA stand to gain the most out of this because the wagering platform for games is fairly easy to understand. Not so much for the NHL and MLB with moneylines and other props that will be offered.

My two cents.
There is a lot of money bet illegally on MLB. A friend who was a bookie said he took more action on MLB than on the NBA. But more on college hoops than the MLB. Not what I expected.

But laws need to change. Wishful think won't do it. With current make up of congress, it ain't happening.

As more and more owners and league commissioners view gambling as being a positive for their respective leagues the more momentum the bills have of moving right through!

I think the people against sports betting are out of touch with reality. People are going to do it whether it is legal or not. Whether they are using a bookie or an offshore account. Why not make it legal then regulate and tax it? I guarantee you if you eliminated all forms of sports betting legal and illegal viewership on the 4 major sports goes way down. Who watched the Saints play the Buccaneers in week 17? The diehard fans of both teams and anyone who had something riding on the game in one form or another. I mean your weekly $5 office pool where you pick all the games to see who gets the most winners is technically illegal. They should do a ratings sweep with anyone who ever watched a football, basketball, baseball or hockey game just because they had money on it told not to watch. The people who think gambling is evil would be shocked how much viewership goes down. I can honestly say the only ads that have influenced a purchase from me are the pizza ones, I am pretty sure I am not the only gambler that ordered a pizza after seeing a Poppa John's ad.

All you said is probably true, but that does not mean congress is going to legalise it anytime soon. It will take major shake up in congress to get done. The poker players have been trying to get a vote on the house floor since 2008. Both Polisi and Boehner refused to bring it for a vote. Sports Gambling has the same opponents as online poker. A lot of seats have to change hands to get the bill through Congress.

Nah, this is the new guy, Rob Manfred, who came into power a few weeks ago.

If both the NBA and MLB commissioners can get the owners behind sports betting, that's half the major leagues pro-betting, and all of a sudden that would turn it pretty interesting.

If the whole world is for sports betting it won't matter with this congress, any bill involing sports betting will never be brought to the floor by either Boehner or McConnell and you need not just one of them but both of them to be onboard.

I believe you're right, but what do you think is behind their objections?

As of now the feds have left it to the individual states to handle. I guess you missed that part!

Wish I could agree with you but regretfully I can't. I stay out of political discussions on here but lets say one group tells a certain representative you vote for the bill and we will run someone against you. BILL IS DEAD!!!

This is exactly what's going to happen. I'm not singling out either side both the right and the left do that to their candidates on a variety of issues.

Maybe in Nebraska but not even close in NJ. Then again college basketball isn't played much here except for the wise guys who try and hit the middle.
