Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, could ask President Trump to instruct the FBI to become involved. The bureau reports to him in the organizational structure of the government, and for these purposes acts as a kind of "contractor" for the White House, as former FBI assistant director Ron Hosko told NPR.

"If the White House were to ask the FBI to reopen its file and go conduct the investigation, the FBI could do that," he said. "I think they could do it swiftly, effectively and report back within days."


...That is what happened in 1991 when an attorney named Anita Hill brought allegations about sexual harassment against her former colleague Clarence Thomas, who was under consideration for a seat on the Supreme Court.

Then-Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Joe Biden, D-Del., asked then-President George H.W. Bush to involve the FBI in looking into Hill's accusations.

Bush — a Republican who had nominated Thomas and wanted to confirm him — agreed. The FBI went to work questioning Hill and others, and ultimately the Judiciary Committee convened hearings at which she and Thomas appeared.

There is NO valid reason to investigate this vague complaint by a person who is unwilling to step up and testify under oath.
