"New" bet for TUP

With racing a month away, TUP will offer-up a new twist on an old idea. T/O on this bet was unfortunately omitted.

if its turf paradise I expect the takeout to be 30+%. Its like 22% on win bets.

The Cotton Fitzsimmons Mile. Why not Lute Olson?

Cotton Fitzsimmons used to frequent Turf Paradise on a regular basis. In the 1990's I recall seeing a table in the clubhouse with a sign that said "Reserved for Cotton Fitzsimmons."

That said, I'm not a fan of the recent proliferation of high takeout single jackpot pick n bets.

These types of bets are "churn" killers. In the long run, the probably reduce overall handle. It may look good when a track has a nice sized pool in a pick 5 or 6, but that money has to reduce the other pools.

I guess having parents who ran in those circles I know way to much about TuP and those people who frequented there but Cotton Fitzsimmons was catholic and there were a number of people in the parish who like horse racing and owned some horses. There used to be a a couple horses named after people in the church, one was a pretty good stake winner at turf paradise and santa anita. I went to a memorial for Cotton and people from the track when they decided to name the race after him. He was a pretty nice guy for someone who was pretty much a rock star hear in the valley.

Does anyone actually enjoy jackpot bets? When is a track going to wise up and just offer a 20 cent or 50 cent pick 6 with no jackpot stipulations? The $2 min scares away the little guy and the jackpot 20 cent style doesn’t appeal to many for reasons I won’t attempt to get into.

We've had several threads about them here and some people do seem to really like them and/or claim they do well betting them despite their effective takeout of 40-50% on days the jackpot isn't paid out (which is almost every day).

How about a track try this - Take 1-2% off of each pools take-out. Use that 1-2% to seed a Sunday pick6. Do it for a buck or fifty cents and create a big buzz for Sunday.
