It will work in a similar manner in the private sector.
Hours will be cut on the people who need them most. And in many industries it will incentivize the move to automation, eliminating the need for the employee at all.
Wal-Mart raised its starting wage months ago, along with a PR statement that the company favors an increased minimum wage. Concurrently, it all but eliminated human cashiers, at least at its stores in my town, leaving only a couple for its 18 checkout lanes. All the rest are self-service. Sam's Club has done the same.

It’s funny you say that. I’m in SC and my wife told me just yesterday that the local Walmart had automated checkout. Beware what you wish for!

BTW, robots are getting exponentially smarter so the next time you turn around it will be medium-skilled labor getting the boot. Eventually, even orangutans will be out of work.

You do it by supporting the political party that closes polling places I predominantly minority communities. By supporting the political party that mandates one drop off box in each county of the state, even counties with millions of residents. By supporting the party that makes false claims of mail in ballot fraud. By passing voter ID laws when there literally no voter ID fraud.

Do you seriously believe that WalMart would not have installed self service checkouts if they had not raised the minimum wage. That was coming no matter what happened.
It’s a myth that raising the minimum wage causes a drop in employment. Numerous studies have shown the falseness of that allegation.
