PA makes a salient point, but still, this has to be illegal to dump like that

Pretty sure that's the horse.
On a somewhat related note, Sherrie and Acacia Courtney pulled two of Burton Sipp's horses out of a kill pen yesterday.

That guy still being in the sport is about as big a black eye as you will ever find.

At long last, maybe you finally discovered Michael Gill's end game... in paying someone to saw the leg off of a dead horse.

SIMPLY BELONGING, one of the two pulled by the Courtneys yesterday, last raced on Sept 24. Equibase lists the trainer as Burton Sipp. And lists the owner as Burton Sipp.
The other, BURNING BLUEGRASS, is another one owned and trained by Sipp. She last raced on October 2.

As undignified as this is, it's not like they go around holding funerals and buying headstones....(unless you were REALLY good).
NYRA has a "pit" at each track, don't they? What happens to the carcass after it is thrown in the pit? Hauled away by who/what?
How much less awful could it be then the picture in the OP? Probably not much.

The problem for me is not a dead racehorse placed in a landfill. The troubling thing is that the racing bandages still being on gives an impression of undue haste and lack of care, which may OR MAY NOT have foundation in truth.

Is horse racing keeping pace w/ the culture?
Can we better handle horses with underlying issues? Can we broadcast propaganda in the media?
We have to move at least as fast as PETA, et al., and we have to move through a culture and media platform that is also moving.

I edited the initial post to show an article on the situation instead of just a tweet.

Why would you think that? When we lived in Phoenix, if you had a dead pet like a large dog, and weren’t going to cremate it, you were supposed to put it out in the street with your trash - but out in the open - no bag, no box. I guess that’s the best way for natural decomposition to take place.
If you have landfill access for dumping refuse, there’s really no reason an animal couldn’t be included.
Is it a pretty sight? No. But illegal? It’s one of the most NATURAL things to be put there.

I was going to say something similar to PA. To my knowledge, most of our dead horses are hauled away to be “rendered” which is a nicer way of saying taken to a landfill.

Rendering is the safe way to boil down an animal carcass. It takes away toxins and leaves usable bone meal and other products. No full animal corpse is deposed of at a dump.

Winds up with horses from some VERY big barns from time to time. Horses no one else will take , apparently .
Long , sordid history from Mr Sipp. Getting on in years, so looks like Father time will have to do the clean up

No, I believe those are two different things.
