ended up favored. No idea if it was a late drop. Lucked out with a garden trip (until the roughhousing) and a last push.

Good to see Eye Luv Lulu displaying multiple moves while stepping up. . At least he didn't drop to 9/5 midrace.

It may simply be my overactive imagination, but I agree with you. The late money moves lately have gone nuclear. Where as before, it could maybe be explained by the whales' models removing value and "overlays" with late dutch wagering, the moves now are appearing at the bigger tracks, and hammer down winners beyond all concept of any "value".

Might be the models getting better, it might be the pools getting smaller, or something else. But at least a subset of the computer assisted wagering entities appears to be on a current "advantage", creating this effect.

It will get worse because no one is doing anything about it.
And everyone knows they can do whatever they want to and no one ever will.
This is not a public game.

Handle is the only thing the tracks give a crap about.
Timing races, betting late, meh!

100% Tom. Pretty sure we've reached a tipping point. Just need an organization to lead. I will follow.

If something isn't done sports betting will absolutely drown horse racing very quickly IMO.

I agree, the difference between a winning and losing day for me will likely be Firenze Fire and the drop in price, very frustrating.

I bet racing handles drops 50% in less than 3 months.
Maybe 6.

But racing will never compete.

Beginning of the end folks. The actual end may drag out 20 years but horse racing as we knew it is over. The game has been reduced to chemically aided winners along with a betting system that is down right criminal.

There appears to be no oversight or even concern that trainers are winning in a way never before seen. In addition, does anyone in the industry notice or care about the asinine late money?

The combination of these two factors makes the game, right now, basically unplayable and an absolute joke.

I have no idea why people that make a living from this game (other trainers, owners, riders, media and track personnel) do not bat an eye to what is happening.

Another poster said it correctly. Many people are extracting any dollars from the game while it's still a free ATM machine.

Tom,

I am confused or perhaps I have missed something.

What has changed recently that makes you say a 50% drop in handle in 6 months?

Dave

Sports betting legalized. It will take longer because many states will drag ass and take time to get it going, but eventually the vast majority will have it.

CJ,

Ah... now I get where you guys are coming from.

So, RACING hasn't changed but the SITUATION has.

A very good point.

Racing has ignored the competition for decades. My guess is that they're still ignoring it today and will continue to ignore right to the end.

Yes - sports betting.
Where the players choose their own drugs and no one rides on their backs.

And where you lock in your odds when you place your wager.
