Why should racing get any of the money?
They certainly are part of the bringing it in.
Racing is an expense.

Drazin has stated in the past, the goal was to increase purses and racing dates for Monmouth.
Are you saying Drazin,s goals have changed?

Tom,
Since Governor Christie forced the hand for the privitization of the NJ racetracks the horseman were given the chore of taking over the tracks, you can call them "figureheads" if you would like which in essence they are. Morris Bailey had the first crack at MP he went in and realized it was such a mess that he said no thanks after a short "test drive". Dennis Drazin came in after he resigned from the NJRC and with the help of his group he formed Darby Development to run the show and hopefully bring racing back to where it was competitive and profitable, two items that racing seems to be void of in most states.
If the horseman didnt go along with any of the moves Drazin made there would be a condo project where MP stands today.
So you tell me do the horseman deserve to reap the rewards of the last 7 years of hard work and persistence from Sports Wagering being legalized in NJ and the sacrifices many of these hardworking individuals went through? I'm sure I know the answer.

I'm sure you realize that the online sports wagering creates a zero revenue stream for MP and the horseman correct? When the weather begins to get cold and you dont want to leave your home to bet the NFL or other sporting events you will go online and this will significantly impact the brick and mortar wagering facility at MP, I don't think it will hurt the Meadowlands as much since they race harness year round and that area is frequented by a lot more people then Oceanport NJ.
Dennis has done a great job in putting together the facility at MP but I strongly believe the pot of gold is online wagering!

So this guy comes on board and turns thing around at the track.
What did the horsemen do to bring sports betting in?
Sounds like racing has been saved without welfare.
Bad precedent being set here.
Sport betting should not have to be tied to racing at all.
Racing will only be an anchor to it.

Where that gets complicated is that you've got racing people (at Monmouth in particular) who understand how to run this sort of operation so they'd be leading candidates for a sports betting license anyway. By having it a racetrack you've got the property and expertise in place, and you also calm those who might say, "Oh noes, new gambling establishments, won't someone think of the children!" by keeping those dirty gamblers in a place they already exist. So while directly tying racing's existence to the casinos (like at Parx) by requiring races to take place is one thing, there is some logic to having sports betting parlors at racetracks.

Are they the best candidates? I would think the likes of Boyd, MGM and William Hill have far more expertise in running a sportsbook.

Having it at a track is a piss-poor idea.
Why put an anchor on it, like a physical plant?
Do they confine the LOTTERY to a racetrack?
Does the LOTTO need anything from a racetrack?
Do race track people run the PowerBall?
Betting sports will be something you do from home, at the grocery store where you buy your lottery tickets, at newstands......why even conder a track?
Most track would be well advised to take what they can get for the plants and let them become malls and condos.
We already have for too many tracks.
Had Monmouth closed up and gone away, it would affect only a small select segment of the population. Probably, Jersey would have had to allow interstate account wagering, in which case, horseplayers there would be far better off today.

How long do you think it is going to take before the sports betters in New Jersey realize that they are taking it in the shorts by betting into a 30 or 40 cent line? I think that this is the main question.

Just because one can drink at home, doesn't mean that all the bars should disappear. MP should be a casino, along the lines of the AC Borgata or Parx.

Casino, yes.
But a sports betting place?
Would YOU drive all the way out to a track to bet the Mets and then go on to work?

Yes I would if I really loved the bet.
Here's something to consider. If you bet online and you win, do you tell your ADW to send out the money after you win or do you leave it in your account? Chances are one leaves it there because it's painful/nuisance to deposit funds in the ADW. I know my history says I do better when I play with cash like I do when in Nevada.

Tom where have you been for the last seven years while I have been on here discussing the main reason why sports wagering is at the race tracks that’s how Governor Christie crafted the bill that would allow sports wagering at the casinos and race tracks to save them as Atlantic City was getting crushed by outside competition and New Jersey Racing whether at Monmouth Park or the Meadowlands was getting crushed by competition from Pennsylvania and New York. The fact that Governor Christie forced privatization of the race tracks gave the race tracks the right to have sports wagering once the Supreme Court of the United States was handed the case from the Third Circuit you keep stating that this should be somewhere else where should it be in our schools our churches at the local Starbucks please enlighten Me!

Read my previous post many people will start wagering on sports online as soon as it is available most likely by the end of August just in time for the 2018 NFL season!
