Hollywood blaming President Trump for lousy box office numbers
http://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/...E2%80%A6-trump
It just gets funnier every day. But I guess they are sort of right. People like myself have removed 'going to the movies' as something to do. I also used to go to a Broadway play on occasion. Those ships have sailed.
I have no intention of paying these millionaire liberals to lecture me on their socialist political views. I have no intention of paying a Broadway actor who comes out of character to lecture the Vice President of the United States sitting in the theater.
Thank God for the racetracks. I'm sure there liberals among them, but the horse people don't give political speeches in the winners circle.

Is being an idiot a requirement to work in right wing media or does it just happen that way? All Variety is saying is that topical humor is popular now and movies can't really be based on current events. As for the movies they reference, does anyone really thing a significant movie could be made based on Chips and Baywatch?
There are plenty of good movies out there. They get good box office. Crappy movies get crappy box office. It has nothing to do with Trump and Variety is not saying it does. That is just the goofy interpretation of the right.
Brandon Victor Dixon's speech to Vice President Pence took place after the curtain call, which means he did not step out of character. And, it was not a lecture; it was a plea. A plea, which considering its intended target will be ignored. It was not his speech alone. It represented the views of the entire cast.
Here is Dixon's request to the Vice President.
"There's nothing to boo here, we're all here sharing a story of love," Dixon said. "We have a message for you, sir."
"Vice President-elect Pence, welcome. Thank you for joining us at Hamilton - An American Musical. We, sir, are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir. But we hope this show has inspired you to uphold our American values, and work on behalf of ALL of us," Dixon said.
Dixon, who plays Aaron Burr in the production, then again thanked Pence for attending a show featuring a "diverse group of men and women of different colors, creeds and orientations." "We don't have to fight one another. The beautiful part of this country is... we don't have to agree, but we gotta live here, baby, and share with one another," Dixon added.
Those are beautiful sentiments. Unfortunately they are sentiments which this administration, with it's politics of division and conflict does not subscribe to .

Hey...you can't accuse Chadk66 of being ignorant about the economy. Have you forgotten that his dad ran two BANKS?

How can you not want to see the comic book classics like Spiderman or Wonder Woman?
Hollywood is seeing their viewership change but they are not noticing. With smartphones and social media, there are fewer people willing to sit through a 3 hour movie in a theater...
It is not Donald Trumps fault that they are continuing an old formula that no longer works... (just like the DNC and Hilary.)

Plenty of good movies out there? I love movies and still like going to the theater. Maybe it's my age, but movies pretty much suck these days. Wonder Woman well reviewed, was okay but kind of a letdown because of the great reviews. Baby Driver was pretty good. This crappy movie trend happened long before Trump. Seems most movies are re-makes and done worse than the original. Or a sequel of something that stunk in the first place. I am getting old, after reviewing this before I post. so stay off my lawn...

formula for movies = be marketable, appeal to lowest common denominator, have a few 'fireworks' of cgi/special effects.

I agree. Don't know the solution.
Right now the 'event' value of a movie is probably greater than the content.
Kids may want to see the movie from the commercial... A date who hasn't been to the movies in a while may be happy to be taken to the movies...
But as far as being excited and captivated by the content? That is probably at a relative low. How we've(and our brains) have adapted to our phones and social media no doubt plays a big role.
The 'binge-watch' market has really stepped in and capitalized on the demand for content niche. They've also done a great job of making that media a 'social' culture. Even if the latest Better Call Saul didn't tingle your spine, you can at least enjoy discussing the episode with friends in social media.

recently caught two movies
took a friend to see Baywatch for her b-day date...
re-watched Glengarry Glen Ross via cable on-demand...
Talk about polar opposites!
I think it's funny that GGR (along with some other pretty good, and pretty bad films), seem to be relegated to 'cult classics'.
