I do not know. A rouge plane on the radar could be shot with a hellfire missile. A military jet would be more difficult to stay out of the way of commercial traffic around the major cities they seem to be near.

One source speculated the helicopters were using sensitive test equipment to monitor for suspicious activities, like possible concerns for future "dirty" bombs by the deep state.

Crazy conspiracy theories I know, but given what has been and what will be going down in the next few weeks/months, very little can be outright dismissed anymore.

Regardless of the purpose, it is not likely we are ever going to know what the purpose was.
