Agreed....did all the dirty work and still drew off. G1 winner Althea and G2 winner Twining in the recent female tree. Will be a factor if he stays healthy.

Other Baffert

Just watched the replay.

The other Baffert horse, Hoppertunity, what a horrible trip? He made a huge move mid race. But was about 10 wide on the turn. Not sure what Talamo was doing with him on the gallop out. Watch the replay. He might want more ground? By "Any Given Saturday"

Could be one to watch

My man 'Snuggly Bear' the is also back in tomorrows (6th Santa Anita) race.

0-6 maiden money-burner

However, last 4 maiden races were losses to Bayern, Midnight Hawk, Indianapolis, and Beach Hut.

every time this horse runs he faces a fast allowance level Baffert horse .

Every time EVERY horse runs its likely they're in a "baffert race" where they can't win. America's greatest supertrainer has plenty of ammo!

Are we sure he did any dirty work? BRIS lists the pace at 2c as 9 points under par.

I've got Hoppertunity picked 2nd tomorrow as he exits the Bayern race where the runner-up came back to run 2nd in MSW at 6-1 and the 6th place finisher, El Nino Terrible, stretched out to 1 1/6 and won at 14-1. (Only two runners to come back).

No question Hoppertunity had a bad trip. Off slow, rank and unmanageable for half the race before relaxing at the halfway point.

Two things turn me off slightly. He was completely dismissed in debut (18-1) and did little running late. You can argue he was 18-1 because the Baffert gang knew Bayern was going to win and the word was out and you could argue he did little running late because he expended too much energy early.

His sister is millionaire Executiveprivilege who was best sprinting (won her first give starts, 4 sprinting) but did win the G1 Chandler going 1 1/6 and was 2nd in the BC Juv Fillies for these same connections.

Not sure what to make for tomorrow.

Tough race, im leaning to skip at this moment unless i see the crowd making a big mistake on one of these runners or i see something in the warmups.

The snuggly horse is decent, and looks like he can stretch out from viewing him visually and how he runs, but this seems to be the type of horse who runs his race and just loses to someone better, there always seems to be someone who steps up and is better.

Another factor might be water in track, showers expected in the afternoon.

Good eye on Hoppertunity, Just Ralph. He rated close to the pace and powered away in the stretch and put several more lengths on his foes in the gallop out. It looks like distance won't be a problem in the future for him.
