In general, I agree. The contradictory statements coming from MS' connections aren't supporting their claim.
However, I sometimes think it's easy to say something in the excitement of the moment without thinking, and then backpedal or offer a different explanation once you have had time to think about it. I think we jump on politicians way too much for off-hand remarks for things like this, and then they have to justify why they said it, and everyone ends up looking ridiculous.
That said, I would expect a jockey who gets dozens of mounts a week to be less likely to misinterpret the situation and change his story later.
