I'm of the belief that the word "Preakness" will be mentioned many places it previously would not, will ultimately lead to higher ratings.

I'll stake a $50 if anyone wants a friendly? $50 its Over 8 million. I'll take over 8.5 million for 2-1.
66 voters for Hurt. 22 for help. I voted HELP 3 times so its really 66-19.

No takers yet on my $50 friendly. Going once , going twice....$100.

Anyone want the $100 action on Under 8 million? I'll take over 8 million and deposit the $100 with PA.

I won't bet against you, because I think you are correct.

I originally voted NO EFFECT, but after reading your thoughts on this, I would change that to HELP.

I voted "Help". And it's nice to hear horse racing being discussed in the context of a sport for a change instead of the doom and gloom PETA agenda.

I voted "help" because I hope it does. And no effect is more likely than ratings dropping much.

The real deal . . .

Hot, dry and fast, coupled w/alcohol and controversy always makes for a good day; unfortunately there will be no run for the Triple this year so that should depress the enthusiasm . . . otherwise it should make for a good day as everyone will be watchin' to see if War Of Will is the real deal.

seems like a ton of buzz today for the Moday prior to the Preakness.

People are still making Derby threads, people are still complaining about Saez' suspension...

people are still voting on this thread (137 and counting)...

This Derby will forever be discussed, and the polarizing issue has increased the market penetration of horse racing, into the sports media market.

Also figures to be nice weather. Anywhere from 8-10 Million viewers would hardly be a surprise.

There is an odd dynamic at work.

While attendance at racetracks decline, the amount of racing televised on networks is increasing. It's cheap to produce, and in an era of fractured viewing audiences, they actually stand out in terms of ratings.

Compare them to what has happened to late night comics or SNL.

Yes, but then Cason and merv's are no longer around....lol...so night show ratings are way down because of the content mostly by the night time hosts....

And the hosts contents rival that of a jerry springer show very often...

Speaking of TV, first race (8th) on NBC Friday, Congrats Gals fell after the wire and died on the track - prolonged camera shots of a fallen horse have got to be just what the game needs. Unknown sudden death the phrase used.
