Mac Jones' Nicknames
The Patriots’ Mac Jones has been in the news recently, not just for his signal-calling, but for his “quarterback-‘sneak’"-footwork. Just ask the Jets’ Sauce Gardner.
If you haven't heard, after Mac's quarterback-sneak against the Jets, Sunday, Gardner vehemently complained that Jones tried to alter his “family jewels.” He went so far as to say, in so many words, that Jones was trying to prevent him from siring children.
Yes, over the years, the Jacksonville, FL native and former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback has had many nicknames, but “The Baby-Faced Gelder” is not one I’ve ever heard.
Oh, Jones has had several nicknames. He was called “The Joker” because of his tendency to keep his mouth open when he laughs. "Holy Tuscaloosa, Batman!" Then there was the nickname, “McEnroe," i.e., the former tennis star and current tennis commentator, because Jones has a fiery temper, a la McEnroe during his his tennis-playing days. “You can’t be serious…”
Then, it was Cam Newton who called Mac Jones, when he first arrived as a New England Patriot, "Mac and Cheese." Maybe, if there were someone on the Patriots’ roster who hailed from Wisconsin, "America’s Dairyland,” there could be a "Mac and Cheese” combination.
In that vein, there was the NBA’s Dion Waiters who wanted to be called “Philly Cheese” (He hailed from “The City of Brotherly Love.”).
Finally, as I return to the Patriots' Mac Jones, there might be a nickname, a food nickname, that might give Sauce Gardner a smile, then again, maybe not. No, not Mac & Cheese, but Mac & Rocky Mountain Oysters (it's a dish made of bull's testicles).
