Who knew alcohol was a major spreader of covid? My home county allows bars to be open but no alcohol sales. WTF. Covid is one smart virus. It only affects the inebriated.

I like the way he's going about it. Contact people you've been around, let them know. Their privacy is important, they will do what's best for them and their contacts (you won't agree but I don't really care what you think)

Here is a link to an article from Scientific American that explains how superspreading events drive most covid-19 transmissions and also ways to prevent the transmission:
https://www.scientificamerican.com/a...id-19-spread1/
Quote:
Scientists have identified factors that catalyze such events, including large crowd sizes, close contact between people and confined spaces with poor ventilation. Current evidence suggests that it is mostly circumstances such as these, rather than the biology of specific individuals, that sets the stage for extreme spreading of the novel coronavirus.
|
This article from the Wall Street Journal is behind a paywall, but it also talks about superspreader events:
https://www.wsj.com/articles/supersp...us-11589977873
Quote:
Some scientists looking for ways to prevent a return to exponential growth in coronavirus infections after lockdowns are lifted are zeroing in on a new approach: Focus on avoiding superspreading events.
The theory is that banning mass public events where hundreds of attendees can infect themselves in the space of a few hours, along with other measures such as wearing face masks, might slow the pace of the new coronavirus’s progression to a manageable level even as shops and factories reopen.
|
And important point that makes a lot of sense:
Quote:
A more surprising finding is that mass infections tend to be more serious than those contracted in other circumstances, perhaps because of sustained exposure to a larger amount of virus.
|
Your body can probably withstand a small dose of covid-19 and fight it off, but if you get a massive dose then that is probably when you get sick. This would explain why going to the supermarket and wearing a mask is probably much safer than attending a Chase Rice concert and standing elbow-to-elbow with his non-masking-wearing fans for an hour.

There has been talk that mouthwash might kill the virus because it spreads when people talk especially if they are shouting. However, the virus tends to come from lungs.
One person in WSJ comments noted that drinking hot tea might be better than mouthwash because it would wash the virus into the acid of the stomach.
I quit drinking coffee and now I drink a lot of hot tea. I have not gotten covid-19 as far as I know. Maybe there is something to this theory?
I also know whisky drinkers who seem to never get sick. Too bad whisky kills brain cells, but in moderation it might not be too harmful and at the same time be effective at keeping covid-19 at bay.

Because when surgeons do surgery they are opening the patients body bypassing their regular defenses.

They also wear them to protect themselves from getting infections from the patients.
