Only in NFL does a team play so well one week and totally like shit the next. I quit betting money on the league 3 years ago for that very reason. The Cowboys were what broke the camel's back with me, too. Last night was another perfect example.
I believe it to be a discipline issue and lack of enthusiasm. No doubt if these guys got paid each game according to their performance we'd see a huge difference. I know that's farfetched, but still a reality. High dollar contracts are ruining the game.

They are paid for performance. There is an NFL performance based pay structure that covers all players, and most of the top players have individual performance targets (TDs, yards gained, sacks, interceptions, etc). They hit those targets, they earn big bonuses.

Not far-fetched at all. I think it's pretty accurate.

And the rule changes are killing the game as well. I think the rule changes are a bigger problem than long term contracts because in the NFL only the up front money is guaranteed.

The number of penalties this year have made the game unwatchable for me. I've never seen so many second-down-and-25s, or third-down-and-30s in my LIFE. It's as if the league has decided to make the REFEREES the most visible part of the game.

You and Valuist have a point. I'm still betting but the penalties are tough to take. As for Monday nights game, you always got to take those division games seriously. The worse team will make it a highlighter of their season...catch the other team napping, looking ahead or just outplay them. With Romo hurt it can't help either and probably affected the outcome. Betting these is sometimes like horse racing...if it looks too easy, like that game did...it's probably fools gold. Been like that longer than the big contracts........"Any given Sunday syndrome"....on Monday night no less.
