Larry Kudlow to replace Gary Cohn

The White House announced that Larry Kudlow has accepted the position of the president’s chief economic adviser, replacing Gary Cohn.

Kudlow is a Republican and a free trader.

Kudlow, who advised Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign, was against the idea of tariffs, writing an op-ed against Trump’s plan, calling it a “crisis of logic.”

This is the Trump Admin modus operandi at this point.

Appoint someone to a position even though their documented beliefs run contrary to Trump.

Receive acclaim from base for great appointment.

Wait what?!?! Appointee doesn't agree with my plan?!?!

Twitter bash/undermine appointee so they leave.

Base, "good riddance he disagreed anyway."

Figures

Trump watches a lot of television.
He needs someone he feels familiar with and can trust.

Your last sentence is indicative of what is one of the flaws of all Presidents:they want advisers who agree with them. That's natural, it isn't an easy job and it's a lot easier if people are agreeing with you.But as my 5th grade teacher, Sister Bernard Francis used to tell us, easier is never better.I would think that the job of advisers would be to try and present different points of view and maybe move the Presidential needle a little bit.

Kudlow's a pretty smart guy but his positions on economics and trade have been virtually unchanged over the years. How long he lasts is up to Trump.

He was already an adviser to the Trump campaign. They have a relationship for awhile. His economic philosophy can be summed up quickly.

1. Low taxes
2. Strong dollar
3. Free trade

He's a supply side guy all the way.

He also once had a serous cocaine habit that cost him a job on Wall St.

He's a smart and entertaining guy generally.

Larry Kudlow was a protege of disgraced uber phony David Stockman, who for years was a darling of the left wing media because he betrayed Ronald Reagan and was given a carte blanche platform to spew lies about Reagan's economy and tax cuts.

Thirty or so years later Stockman is just a minor footnote yet is often dusted off and propped up on liberal TV of late. Why? He follows the cue and knocks Donald Trump, that's why. Another useful idiot.

btw, Kudlow never denounced Stockman for this lack of loyalty and class. But Kudlow did recover from a cocaine addiction and became a Roman Catholic -- both of which explains his love in part for open borders and illegal immigration, as does the 'free' trade corporatists.

Kudlow previously and wholeheartedly supported and championed giving the Chinese Most Favored Nation Status in the World Trade Organization. China took advantage of this by dumping cheap aluminum and steel in our country, regularly steal Intellectual Property, and enthusiastically commits more serious crimes against humanity.

So, let's all give a big thanks to the likes of Kudlow and our very own PA 'free' trade devotees.

He is tap dancing around a conundrum. Trump always gets it right, but picking Kudlow is wrong.

Dilemma.
