Only 107 today in Laughlin, which I prefer to Las Vegas, but staying home today, not in Nevada. 112 Monday if you choose to stay the weekend there. One thing about Laughlin is that none of the clubs give free or nearly free Forms, unlike a few of the more generous Las Vegas clubs. Best in town is the Riverside and Aquarius at $2.50 per edition, but on busy weekends there are three editions. However, $7.50 for just about every track going, perhaps 12-15, is not that bad a deal considering that there is no charge for parking or admission.

In an effort to justify the DRF price, I will extract two data elements from the form to make my selection(s) for the Belmont.

First, Tomlinson Number with 300 being the cutoff

Second, Youngest horses foaled April or later

Results:
Medal Count
Commisioner

These are the two horses with the most hidden potential.
Wager $40 Win and $20 Place on both

Thank you Daily Racing Form for providing the data elements to develop "The Theory of Hidden Potential".

Made a $100 after paying for DRF and getting a cup of coffee.

A lot of cheering and yelling down the stretch. They both ran their hearts out and displayed their hidden potential at odds north of 25-1.

What is actually behind this is the cost of PRINTING and DISTRIBUTING the DRF. I have done work in the newspaper industry and it is getting killed because printing and distributing the physical paper is extremely expensive.

DRF caught a bit because they need to (for now) continue to print. But really they would rather everyone went digital.

We are seeing newspapers close down each year, slim down each week. That trend will continue due to the cost.

There are things about the DRF I don't love (their website etc could use a big upgrade) but I bet they lose money on the printed versions regardless of price charged.

I'll pay the eight bucks but for god's sake put all the tracks in it.

The DRF has said that their printed edition was a moneymaker...even before the price increase. The thing that frustrates me isn't the price increase; it's the shoddy service that goes with it. First, they had certain racetracks left out of their PM edition...and then they started reducing the PPs of some tracks down to 6 lines.

The product should not be getting worse as the price-tag is increasing.

You gotta' love Wegman's. I miss that store. All we have here is Kroger and a few sparse Giant Eagle stores. If you want samples, you have to go to Sam's Club on weekends, and there is no DRF to be had.

Regarding the price of the DRF, since I now pay over $4.00 per gallon of gas (my car has to run Premium and I paid $4.28 per gallon at a Shell yesterday), I don't really notice the DRF as being "too" expensive. It is what it is.

Went from $5.75 to $7 this weekend in Seattle, off-track. My 7-11 clerk that I've been buying them from for years apologized up and down. He thought I thought 7-11 was the culprit. I let him know in my usual gutter language that I understood full well the source of the price increase.
