LOL. I think Mantle took amphetamines and God knows what else.

Rick Arthur has been a big disappointment. This is a man with extensive knowledge and experience with racehorses. He knows what's going on and he knows that Baffert dopes his horses. His actions, or inactions, regarding the Baffert horse deaths and other drug abuses, is very suspicious.

IMO Arthur has been part of many coverups. And the attachment a couple posts back outlines just how bad he is. He's all politics and all about his own career 100% of the time.

That's the way these things always work. Of course insiders know what is going on, including insiders who really are experts.

This is why in the end, you need outsiders to regulate the sport. Yes, they won't understand the sport. But it's extremely hard to find people who have extensive expertise in the sport who aren't also corrupted by their relationship to it.

The sport's power players bash on groups like WADA, but the reason such groups exist is because self-regulation leads to massive doping.

Wait, other trainers with top class horses bend the rules as well?

the overages are strange

Certain trainers, owners, vets, teams... (and Baffert being one of the most prominent, in the spotlight), do a great job with having horses in top condition, with muscle mass, vigor, and with exceptional stamina in spite of exertion.

Some feel this is due to undetectable PEDs, while others feel it is most or all because of great training, and great stock from high class breeding and big pockets.

Those trainers/etc..., have a 'competitive advantage'.

For Baffert that means a big salary and a lot of investment, and connections and a hot brand.

On the other hand, the 'detectable overages' do not tend to produce the above advantages on a significant scale.
(an oversimplified explanation of ) Detectable overages substances, is that they are better for getting a top performer through one given race. Dull some pain a bit. Calm an anxious or over-stimulated horse. Etc... The benefits of treating over the limit w/ such substances are more about not having to skip a big race with a contender who otherwise would need some time off.

Detectable overages are also ... 'detectable', so the punishment is greater (assuming your trainer doesn't have social media vids like Navarro, or 'jump the shark' like J.S. and feel the need to win 30% and juice every horse and have connections to a similar network of a reckless guy like Navarro)... Detectable substances get your name in the media, they question your integrity, you get on a list of # of total historic infractions 25 or whatever so far ...

It just seems weird and illogical to risk a detectable overage, when you have a multi-million dollar operation from another existing competitive advantage.

Can't tell if these are result of jurisdictions tightening previously loose testing, or a reckless trainer who believes he is too big for such guidelines when he has a star for a big client, or what...

doesn't seem to make a lot of sense, but I don't know everything about this

WADA is awful, no better than PETA. They are dishonest and arrogant and racing shouldn't let these guys anywhere near the door. Google the name Mamadou Sakho to see how they destroy innocent people.

Red face naivete is bliss (Rant)

It was interesting when Servis and Nvarro got pressed by the FBI.

Some of the trainers backed off with the undetctable PEDs andd some didn't.

Even by the time Saratoga rolled around, some of the operations in the spotlight showed respect and really toned down things to have their horses run on conditioning. Yet a couple/few seemed to go the other way and horses were fortuitous to outrun their form and replays.

It's such a tough racket, and so much politics and egos...

We see Navarro go down, or a horse has to change barns and 'we' say, "finally a clean sport!"

Such naivete is blissful, and optimistic.

yet, some old horseplayers with the perspicacity to see things without need of validation from authority, or agreement with the narrative, so that within their own circle of their competence, they may apply rational, critical thinking to see a high probability of PED use in certain instances.

we (nerds) use to love "six degrees of kevin bacon" ... now nerdy kids say "six degrees of nicolas cage" or 6dgSamLJackson etc...

but we got guys with FBI shutdowns, we got major hardcore infractions, and we got multiple overage guys...

but the Elephant right there in the mansion, (The guest bathroom has a hot tub, and a marble glass shower) ... what?>? the elephant!!
these guys , these owners, vets trainers etc... are like 3! 3! OR 2 OR 4 degrees of separation!!
LMAO lol ... so then we change trainers , and say "oh my how will the horse adjust"?

or the same owners who had guys busted claim, and don't bring to Saratoga, and train at monmouth or belmont or some facility and same vets and ship in...

"oh my, i'm glad thre are clrean...

or the same owners go from Cali and basiclly win the title at monmouth and party with the ceo of monmouth and whatever "oh how will there horses recover from withdrawling from the evil Servis/Navaro scapeVILLIANS. I mean 'villians'. bad guys. Game is clean now, new way
new way

'New Normal'!

hey, while I'm ranting; I have some reluctances to turn the enforcemt over to the FBI Or other official horseman groups... There's a balance of power there, where this billiion dollar industry with some vulnerabiliiesys as it is currently being run, has room for some exploitation of giving such power as it could become a 'protection racket' (at an ignornant glance, some of the larger industries almost seem to pay protection taxes and play green light big fav operations, even moreso than the current politics. Be careful with what you wish for!

Let's get some money this weekend and I won't think about this stuff for a while.

WADA has a far better record than any US horse racing jurisdiction.
