Yes.
Look at our consumption levels, standard of living, and complete global supremacy.

49% courtesy of righty Rasmussen, all other polls put him at 30-40% approval.
Defies explanation how anyone could "approve" of a White House circus led by a malignant clown and filled with fear, chaos, and gross incompetence, but to each their own I guess.

Using only Rasmussen is the ultimate cherry pick.

Supposed insiders in the administration are saying that Trump took action on the tariffs without discussing it with any of his staff, and despite the White House counsel’s office telling him that they needed two more weeks to review all of the legal aspects of the tariffs.
Quote:
No one at the State Department, the Treasury Department or the Defense Department had been told that a new policy was about to be announced or given an opportunity to weigh in in advance.

Some suspicious minds speculate that he didn't discuss it because he was afraid he would be talked out of it.

Good for Trump then...elections have consequences, remember everyone?
And I hope he does fire Mueller...that would make for some fine

Competition from abroad has made American businesses more efficient and kept prices down. The claim that we are losing jobs because of imports is a myth.
The Financial Times says that Trump's claims about job loss are greatly in error.
Quote:
According to this narrative, the US’s trade policies, growing trade deficits with Mexico and Canada, and China’s “unfair subsidy behaviour” are to blame for the US’s “deindustrialisation” and its disappearing middle class.
The US did indeed lose about 5.6m manufacturing jobs between 2000 and 2010. But according to a study by the Center for Business and Economic Research at Ball State University, 85 per cent of these jobs losses are actually attributable to technological change — largely automation — rather than international trade.
The think-tank found that although there has been a steep decline in factory jobs, the manufacturing sector has become more productive and industrial output has been growing.

Trump's "listening session" with steel and aluminum industry executives brings to mind a famous quote from Adam Smith:
Quote:
People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices.

You mean like the fact that 72.5% of the steel used in this country in 2017 was produced here?

Well, that was quick.
Quote:
Sweden’s Electrolux, Europe’s largest home appliance maker, said on Friday it would delay a planned $250 million investment in Tennessee, after US President Donald Trump announced tariffs on imported aluminum and steel.
“We are putting it on hold. We believe that tariffs could cause a pretty significant increase in the price of steel on the US market,” Electrolux spokesman Daniel Frykholm said.
“So this is not the possibility of tariffs directly impacting our costs, but rather the impact it could have on the market and that it could damage the overall competitiveness of our operations in the US,” Frykholm said.

They will be sorry when they learn that US National Security concerns necessitate tariffs on Swedish vacuum cleaners.
