He's a monster...

have to see how clear he looks on pace projector.

He's a champion...

I want to see how Medina Spirit is working, and I want to see the gallop-outs.

Charlatan may have run his biggest race in defeat in the Saudi Cup. He dueled Knicks Go.

The interesting thing about a couple of the races is that Baffert has Private Mission against Letruska (not to mention Horologist and Shedaresthedevli potentially being in the mix early) and Medina Spirit against Knicks Go. We know Baffert LOVES to send his speed horses hard early to try to discourage the other speeds. Then he often gets a breather in the middle and wires. But these may be races where the favorites won't back off so easily. So who blinks first or do neither blink and we get a very fast pace?

I'm going off the Preakness for Medina Spirit. I love Knicks Go as he's a MD bred horse, but I don't like him at 1- 1/4 mile. Cox picked soft spots for him this summer and fall which says a lot about current form. Maybe he went soft hoping for a best of lifetime effort tomorrow. Which would place him with the leaders at the end. It's just a matter of how much he falls off the last sixteenth. Del Mar does play to his strength with the short stretch and circular shape; as opposed to the ovals with tighter turns we see at most North American tracks. Del Mars shape also favors Tripoli with much tastier odds.

Essential Quality picking up the pieces after a hoof-melting pace.
