Rep. Chris Collins was the first member of Congress to endorse Donald Trump. Since then he’s become, rather obviously, quite important to the campaign, and is one of their key surrogates in the media. In an interview with the The Buffalo News yesterday, Trump critical ally, first endorser, and top media surrogate told the media outlet that Trump’s big sell items, the “big, beautiful wall” and his “kick them out” policy are just a big show.
“I have called it a virtual wall,” Collins told the paper. “Maybe we will be building a wall over some aspects of it; I don’t know.”
A virtual wall. That is not what the Donald promised. You know what else he didn’t promise? Fake deportations.
|
What about the deportations?
Quote:
“I call it a rhetorical deportation of 12 million people,” Collins said.
He then gestured toward a door in his Capitol Hill office.
“They go out that door, they go in that room, they get their work papers, Social Security number, then they come in that door, and they’ve got legal work status but are not citizens of the United States,” Collins said. “So there was a virtual deportation as they left that door for processing and came in this door.”
Collins added: “We’re not going to put them on a bus, and we’re not going to drive them across the border.”

The word "deport" suggests permanence and maybe that's how Trump's supporters and the media took it, but if you listened to what he was actually saying in the debates he also talked about the door back in.

That was always Trump's position, that he would deport 12 million illegals and then let the "good ones" back in on an expedited basis. And he has always said, as I remember, that the great majority of them are "good ones".
Which is why the literal plan is so whacked. If you are going to let the "good ones" back in, find out who they are and don't deport them in the first place. And the fall back by the more knowledgeable supporters is that this is just Trump's first offer in a negotiation (a suggestion!), and he knows he isn't going to get this, and he will settle for something less that he will be happy with.

I think he was purposely using the word deport because he knew most people would "assume" it meant physical deportation and that would be popular among some people, but he never really meant or intended physical deportation.
He's smart enough to know it would cost and waste a lot of money to physically deport them only to let them right back in, but he was throwing red meat at those that want exactly that.

So Trump supporters - are there any issues that Trump could change his position on that wouldn't alter your support for him? The wall? Trade?
|
why would his supporters care what he says as long as he makes america great again? you either trust him to fix things or you don't, if you trust him, you're all in, the only way you would 'fire' trump from receiving your support is if you decided you didnt trust him after all. all politicians lie on everything, they're doing it to gain votes, what they say people take with a grain of salt, especially people with a brain.

From CNN:
Quote:
Donald Trump on Monday did not refute a report claiming he told The New York Times editorial board in an off-the-record meeting that his immigration views are in fact more flexible than he has made them seem throughout his presidential campaign.
"Everything is negotiable," Trump said Monday on Fox News, responding to a question about whether the report, which undermines Trump's hardline stance on immigration, was accurate.

Because what he says is supposedly how he is going to "Make America Great Again". How can you believe the promised result if you have no faith in the promised strategy and tactics?

I believe his "promises" or "suggestions" more than any other candidate. The things I believe in strongly at least gets lip service. I liked his list of SC nominees, all are pro life.

He's all over the map trying to attract whoever he's talking to on that day and whatever stage of the campaign he's in.
At this point people are either not going to vote for him due to all his flaws or they are going to hold their noses and vote for him because they think the alternative is worse.

I don't think my comment actually needs an explanation. I'm sure you and 95% of the posters reading it understood the context.

you could not be wrong. Anybody whose job went overseas because of our crazy tax laws which actually reward building factories overseas. In fact the are times the congress gives free money, not just tax breaks, to companies that move. Thank you GOP congress. Caterpillar has gotten good at getting that money. Kochs have too.

You're getting frustrated, aren't you? Hell, he's closing the gap on Clinton like greased lightning...even in some of the more leftist polling institutions...
When it comes to Trump, this emoticon is so for you:

Sell it here, make it here.
Otherwise, pay tarrifs through your.........nose.
WE can build, grown, mine or invent anything we need.
WE do not need to rely on the world for squat.
WE do not need the crappy government we have had for decades.
