Texas Racing

I haven't paid much attention to what is happening with racing in Texas. But I noticed, once again, the signal is not available and that Sam Houston has sub $500 pick 4 pools.

Can someone dumb it down for me and explain how this is good for Texas racing and what the end game is? How are they funding the purses? I do not understand why this is happening.

Yet, Lone Star QH meet was available nationwide. Makes zero sense.

i believe this has something to do with HISA laws. they chose not to comply, meaning they are not allowed to ship their signal across state lines.

it's sad to see this happen to Texas. they have a really good racing and breeding program. there are quite a few training centers in Texas as well.

But that is like a business choosing to not sell their product online. There must be a financial end game. How do they pay the purses?

The tracks are not choosing. The TXRC made the decision that HISA cannot work with the Texas rules of racing, which state that the TXRC is the sole regulator of Horse Racing in Texas. HISA controls interstate wagering, so people cannot bet on Texas horse racing outside of Texas in America. Fron what I heard there is an tax on certain equine products and that tax revenue goes to purse accounts in Texas

HISA is not related to QH racing, so Texas tracks can still simulcast their QH meets. Off topic, but someone put 15k to show on a big Quarterhorse race at sunland yesterday. Horse finished last. What you get if you put 15k to show on a Quarter Horse

The biggest problem with HISA is funding. The small medium size tracks struggle to find the money for it. Even smaller tracks with casino money have a hard time.
Hopefully , some solutions will be forthcoming.

I don't think there will be any "solutions." HISA is about contraction and consolidation. The powers behind HISA don't care about racing in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado.....the states that might have needed an extra layer of regulation: California, New York, Florida, for starters, will survive. It's totally inverted.

Purses are wholly funded by the tax at this point. The on-track business still generates enough revenue to justify keeping it open for the possibility of a chance at the first slots in Texas.
