How many "big league" coaches didn't excel as players. Quite often it is the journeyman who has to be smarter and study the game that become the "good/great" coaches.

We don't know what her role is going to be. Maybe she's a great tactician. Maybe, as someone mentioned, she can improve the free throw game. Many hockey teams have "power skating" coaches which happen to be women. Just because the best woman most likely couldn't compete straight up against the best man doesn't mean the woman doesn't have the skills to coach.

You are so far off base with the premiss of this thread it is just sad. Hopefully, you don't have any daughters who wouldn't be able to live down to your lowered expectations of them. I have three daughters and find your line of thinking to be truly deplorable.

Also, the sad fact that you have to insert the political "liberalism" into what I said is uncalled for. My thoughts are not political, simply just a high respect for the abilities of the other 50% of humanity.

While it is probably true that Coach Hammon is there to learn more than teach (for now), it is telling that the Spurs had a woman head coach for their d-league team full of their youngest and rawest prospects. So obviously they aren't afraid of the idea. And you certainly can't call the organization anything other than vastly successful.

Exactly. As Jay said there are female skating coaches working in the NHL. For example Barbara Underhill (ex World Champion Figure skater) works with the Maple Leafs (and they can use all the help they need!) as a speed and power coach. She previously worked with the Anaheim Ducks, New York Rangers, and Tampa Bay Lightning.

No, she can't score like Sidney Crosby, but she has knowledge and abilities they find valuable.

Btw...why not program robots to do the coaching? They're a whole lot cheaper and won't be screaming and having fits with the team 5 days out of every month.

There are jobs women don't do well. "Anything a man can do? " Sit down with some retired Firefighters, Navy men and cops. Very few women are up to the task. Yet we never hear about it.

In about 15 yrs of wearing a uniform I worked with about 10-15 lady cops. 1 was up to the task.

I know Fireman who could tell some great stories .........but you would just ignore them for political correctness sake
