Crimson Light First Time Starter Must Watch Race

https://x.com/TheNYRA/status/1744073241465860159?s=20

If someone posted this video of the 4th race at Aqueduct Sunday (Jan 7), I apologize for redundancy but I don't see the thread so I'm posting it. This is a race that everyone should enjoy watching. First time starter Crimson Light. This is the regular view but on the head-on, you can see that he veered left out of the gate and hit the fence.

That said, the track is playing crazy slow. The AOC with High Oak and Joey freshwater went 1:13.81 for 6 in a 7 furlong race.

If you look at final times to evaluate any performance, you probably need to go back to square one in terms of handicapping and evaluating horses and their performances. If you watch a performance like this one, and then knock the race based on the time, I'm not sure even going back to square one would help.

If the race goes in par he looses by what, 5 lengths, more...then it would be a horse to watch but likely overbet in the next race.

Now he will just be overbet and a huge play against in a stake.

By the way, I meant to post the entire race. Go to NYRA.com and watch the entire 4th race, it's fun to watch.

The track was very slow yesterday, and it was very slow Friday and Saturday. It's winter.

Thanks for the heads up. I did miss thst race. Looks like he was coming into the race with a 47 and 4 bullet gate work breezing at the training track. First of 141.

He spotted this field 20 lengths, 8 wide into upper stretch, barely in camera view for a good part of the race. I don't know how many points you would add for the ground loss, but even a conservative estimate would put him well over par for the race.

It will be interesting to see where they place this colt next. I wonder if he gets to join the big boys with the Todd squad in Florida?

That was something, and so was this a few years back:

That one reminds me of what Eddie Arcaro said about riding Whirlaway. He said it was the scariest experience of his life because Whirlaway would get going and he'd start picking his way through traffic while running twice as fast as the other horses. Arcaro would have to somehow steer him.

Here's the classic example of it, the 1941 Preakness. The fun happens on the far turn.

He's a NY Bred. Also, going wide in the stretch was an advantage on yesterday's track.
