A Thread about Nothing
No breakfast! Putting some bets in at FG, SA, amd GP, then off to Journeyman Stud for a stallion show and free eats (Mexican, I think).

My elderly cat needs to have her teeth cleaned. The vet requires bloodwork, xrays and anesthesia and then deep cleaning plus any required tooth extraction. Was presented an estimate and it runs from a low of $600 to a high of just under $1000. Talk about sticker shock plus. A thousand bucks to brush my cat's teeth? I love that cat dearly, but it is going to take at least a couple of very good days at the track before we can break even on this one.

What would it cost you to replace the cat?

She is priceless, the sky is the limit. Will have it done soon, just a bit rocked about the cost. Not critical yet that it be done at once, her teeth are not badly infected or causing major problems, just a lot of tartar according to the vet. Am well aware that tooth and gum problems in older cats and dogs can be a source of serious health issues.

How bad are her teeth? I've been told it's quite risky to place an elderly cat under...

A major concern. According to what I have been able to find out on the internet pet forums, a gas called sevorflurane is the safest for all pets and that I should insist on it. More expensive but worth it from what I can find out. A few vets will clean teeth without putting a cat under, but that brings up other problems.
