Nice overlay into the DD however. Winner of a 2 horse race to the favorite in a 7 horse field paid 9/2. I expected it to be around $5.

3 vet scratches produced the match race.

In other words, only one sound horse was entered in the race.
Maybe PETA has a point....

Unless that horse would also have been voided, which seems like a distinct possibility.

NYRA's having big-time trouble. Not as bad as California, but still. They weren't having this trouble a few years ago.
And that's significant lost revenue for NYRA. The betting handle goes up on the TC race days. Every track in America tries to card lots of races those days. Being unable to fill races is money that can never be recovered, like flying an airplane with an empty seat.

June and early July have really become no-man's land in Southern California. This was true even when Hollywood Park was running, but it's even more true now. Trainers are resting their horses up for Del Mar, and once Los Al opens there will be no turf course and overly tight turns.
These black holes in the Southern California racing schedule (there's another in November-December) demonstrate that George Krikorian is right and we need one circuit.

Santa Anita is running a three horse G1 race on Saturday. There are five in, but two are almost sure to run on Sunday in a different race.

I pretty much agree with the above. The average Owner is between a rock and a hard place. He can't afford to buy the best stock and if he buys a less expensive horse, the day rate, vet bills, blacksmith, etc make it all but impossible to be profitable.

Did Santa Anita flip out that Bob would announce a probable scratch in a big race for Saturday on Thursday? You bet they did.
Good thing he’s on the Executive Board of the TOC and they’re PARTNERS with all the other Stakeholders of California Racing. We all gotta pull together right?
And how about that Jackpot taking all that money out of action? Up to 400K now with chalk winning in short fields. Having a jackpot wager under these conditions is malpractice.
Until the Stronach Group puts someone in Charge who everyone respects then the Brackpool/Morris team ain’t gonna cut it.
All we can do is hope Ritvo can put a rabbit out of his hat.
BTW I think B.B. will now run Faithfully or he can scratch after the P6 and late P4 start right?
