If you need a good laugh read this quote: “We as an industry have a collective responsibility to create lifelong fans of the sport,” Keeneland President and CEO Shannon Arvin said.
Screw the fans, keep raising prices to save a dying sport. High takeout isn't enough. After reading my criticism of raising any prices, I am glad this sport is dying! Associating with morons will never get you anywhere. Enjoy the races at Hollywood Park, Arlington, Rockingham, Suffolk Downs among many others with more to come! High takeout just isn't enough according to most people here.

I think I have said this before, but one of the signs of a healthy industry is actually high prices, not low prices.
Consider the difference between the Miami Marlins and the New York Yankees. Which baseball team do you think is more financially successful? Well, if you want to sit behind home plate on the lower deck at today's Yankees game, you will pay $305 (I just checked). If you want to sit behind home plate on the lower deck at today's Marlins game, you will pay $49.
Now, if Keeneland (which I definitely assume to be a financially successful racetrack) wants to give out a free program they absolutely can-- there are reasons why entertainment companies offer discounts or don't charge the highest possible prices (even the Yankees have some discount ticket plans). But the fact that Saratoga can charge a fair amount of money is evidence of its success, not its failure. Price is how the world signals that a good is worth paying for.
