You can see what happened better if you watch the pan and head-on in slow motion. The horse was drifting in most of the stretch and was still drifting in late. IMO, without that drift, the subtle chain of events never would have occurred. If it happened at the 3/16th pole we probably wouldn't have even noticed. I'm not worried about him pulling himself up in the future.

I'd worry about him tailing off. His best work has been around one turn.

Vulnerable at short odds in the BC Dirt Mile; live long shot in the BC Sprint. Hope he cross-enters now that Asmussen's main Sprint hope is retired.

Asmussen has the stone cold favorite in the Sprint in Jackie's Warrior.

Life is Good will be a heavy favorite in the Dirt Mile.

You're really off your game:-)

Unrelated; but watch the start of the Cotillion (pan and head-on). The chart comment is Start Good. More horses had trouble at the start than didn't.

Life is Good is going to try two turns again? Talk about vulnerable. And there goes a NYRA Mile and Malibu double on the road towards retirement.

I hope By My Standards cross-enters; no chance at long odds in the BC Classic; live long shot in the BC Dirt Mile.

Thanks, forgot about him. I wonder if he'll be as short a price as he was in the BC Juvenile last year.

Might end up emulating Groovy in terms of pari-mutuel disasters. And he's no Groovy...

He's no Groovy, that's for sure, but his competition isn't much. If he shows up, he's a cinch.

Steve trains his horses in close company to try to avoid just such an occurrence. But sometimes there's nothing you can do. When a 1000 lb animal decides he's going to slow down there's NOTHING the jock can do about it.

Saying Ricardo did something wrong and or nefarious is complete nonsense.

Winning horse races is hard. One way to win. About a million ways to lose.

to anybody who had him singled.

Feel for ya.
Thanks for those thrilling first two paragraphs.
Nobody said Santana did anything nefarious.
What he did do is think he had the race won,and eased up on SS.....and it cost him the race.
SS was following along with Santana's commands......and Santana eased up on his ride.......then.....Silver State eased himself up off the cue.
To make it crystal clear......Silver State pulled himself up after Santana's overconfident decision......not before.
BTW:
Real nice of Santana to place the blame on Silver State......after all,the horse can't defend himself.
But don't take my word for it by any means.
When asked about the finish of the race today by Steve Byk on his show.....Asmussen started laughing nervously......and one of his quotes was "Ricky being overconfident."

That's not a very pleasant thing to say.
I myself would never say something like that to somebody on this board.......but that's just me.
I have a question for you...
When was the last time you heard Steve Asmussen instantly start laughing nervously about a question(in this case SS giving the race away Saturday)......and then include in his response the following quote....."Ricky being overconfident"....while still laughing uncomfortably.....in reference to said ride he put up ?
BTW:
It sure seemed like he wanted to get away from the subject as quickly as possible.

Ok. I won't waste your time with long paragraphs.

YOU'RE WRONG.

All Caps ?
No need to get hostile.
Look.....you're actually getting better.
At least those two long paragraphs weren't all about you.
So if I'm wrong.......does that also make Steve Asmussen wrong when he said "Ricky being overconfident" when answering Steve Byk's question about the race Saturday ?
Of course you're the one who posted the other day that you might know more about riding a race horse than HOF jockey Mike Smith.
So I guess it stands to reason that you know more about evaluating a race ride than Steve Asmussen.
Got it...

Would FLIGHTLINE be the 2nd choice if Sadler decided to run him in the BC Sprint?
