Dogs and cats don't live long enough. It's like losing your best friend every ten years.

But look at the bright side: Look how many loving, loyal "best friends" one can enjoy over the years.

We all agree that our furry companions bring joy into our lives yet pet shelters are overrun with abandoned and abused animals.
How is that possible?

I had to do the last breath thing with one of my rescues last weekend. I’ve done it at least ten times over the years. Never gets easier.
I attached a pic of my wife from today. We have a stray living in a giant wood pile in a field about 4 blocks from our house. We’ve been feeding etc for a few days now. As soon as he glimpses a leash he bolts. Trying to work out setting a trap in the next few days. These guys can be tough to apprehend. In the pic my wife is sitting in the field talking to him (for an hour) as he sits out of reach

It must be something that makes us two-legged animals different from our four-legged "furry companions".

Here in Texas it’s the crappy sub cultures we allow to do whatever they want.
Mostly Mexican. I know you have visited Mexico. Stray dogs run in packs in every city. You’ve probably seen them. They get very little Vet care and are discarded like old shoes. They get treated the same way here.
Here in Texas we ship our strays up north for adoption. There are shortages of adoptable dogs in cold weather states. Ever wonder why?

The vile humans outnumber the kind ones. And most of us are rather indifferent to animals because we haven't experienced the benefits of their companionship.
I was 45 when I first took in a little cat...and it was by accident. He stayed with me for 13 years...and when he died a year ago...it was one of the very worst days of my life.

It’s time.........for another. Rescues are full this time of year.
We have 4 cats and 2 dogs. All rescues
Btw, when adopting cats.......bonded pairs from the same litter are fun.
Make arrangements in your will........for what happens to them should you leave them behind.
It’s time.

I already got one...and I wish I could figure out how to post his picture here. A friend of mine saw how distraught I was...and gave me a 3-month old British Shorthair. I've had him for almost a year, and he is already 13 pounds...with very little fat. A BIG cat...and a whole lot of fun.
He looks exactly like this:

I lived in Mexico for 15 years. Completely different culture. Dogs are not pets they are protection. Vets mainly specialize in care for farm animals. There are no animal shelters or funds for euthanasia.
