Is Tapit one of the best Sires Ever?

He continues to produce on every surface and at every distance. Where do you think he stacks up all time?

If he's not top 10 all time already, he's getting close.

It depends on how his sons do as studs, top sires are also ranked not just on the earnings but if they have good sons at stud like AP Indy and Storm Cat, time will tell.

i was just looking at tapits lifetime pps and it seems he got 'ruined' in the ky derby and was never the same and got retired. short career but certainly didnt hurt his stud talents.

the best were MR. PROSPECTOR and VALID APPEAL (for broodmares). but there are plenty of others, i went for those guys because i have personally had offspring from them.

To piggyback on lambo, broodmare sire stats are just as significant as their record as a stallion.

I don't remember specifics, but I know I had his Wood win rated very poorly and didn't consider him any kind of Derby contender that year.

Tapit certainly is one of the great sires. Posted his form going into through the '04 Derby.

In my lifetime, I think Northern Dancer was the all-time best.

Seattle Slew was a great dirt sire in the 80's, as well as his son AP Indy in the next generation.
I see Tapit comes from that line.

Northern Dancer was the top turf sire for many years in the 80's also.

He's got A.P. Indy on his side who is one of my favorites and when he was racing.

Not hardly. In fairness he didn't have the opportunity however.

In the past 50 years, Northern Dancer is the undisputed #1 sire. Mr. P and Danzig would probably rank 2nd and 3rd, then there's Storm Cat, Deputy Minister, A.P. Indy, etc. Giant's Causeway doesn't really get the respect he deserves.

Tapit will undoubtedly join them.

The Tapits have their flaws though. They're temperamental and it can get in the way of their talent. They don't seem to have great longevity either.
