The Meadows Greed

The Meadows Racetrack and Casino rakes in over 120 million revenue each year from just the slots. Forget how many tens of millions they rake from tablegames. The Meadows Racetrack without any promotion or announcement to the public, raised the retention rate on Trifecta Wagers from 29% (which is too high to start with) to 35% thus being one of two tracks known for the highest rake in North America. Pocono Downs is the other.

Mr Anthony at Ocean Downs has a saying, "when you bet less, you lose more when you win". How true, now the Meadow can say "when you bet more, you lose more, when you win at the Meadows."

We are discussing currently on whether to pull the Meadows from our website due to this high way robbery. Like Pokie, the Meadows is not a place that is fan friendly, in fact, they seem to go out of there way to alienate their consumers.

Ave Trifecta pool size tonight is $4781

a 6% increase in Takeout nets the recipients of those funds (track, horsemen, state etc) a whopping $286 per race

They'll probably lose that much handle (per race) by fed-up players.

If not, a well organized BOYCOTT should do them in....

Was my home track too

Hey All, what is it with that track ?....I love the structure, both class and speed, of the 5/8's of mile ovals, and I especially do well at this venue, I really love the racing scene at The Meadows, but what's very "disheartening" for me at least, is the how and the why of all this greed....The casino profits should be more than enough for them.....Heck, if a slot was only returning 89% for a buck invested, then my how you would see how fast that slot machine would be avoided, and this is so as I see it all the time at all the tcasinos, so then, how can the track, if they wanted to get and keep a horseplayer coming back for more, think that, by raising the rake on an exotic bet giving only a 65% return on investment, would entice any serious" players to be the least bit driven to make a substantial wager on such a play on such a disadvantaged wager to begin with??.....I can't understand the "suits" thinking on this....Bad business practice, I'd say....

Sadly, I think that most "racinos" have this plan to ultimately eliminate the losing ending of the business in the long run....Some tracks may want to have this happen sooner....What other reason would there be, other than to pull the betting-rug out from any serious player, to make this play....

Shame on you MEADOWS !!.....that really sucks of you....

best,

Thank you for your input Kash...get the word out to people you see at the simulcast centers, friends in your email groups, etc. We need to show these tracks that we know what they are doing.

The Meadows trifecta takeout has been 35% for many years, it wasn't just recently raised. On the other hand, Pocono reduced their take from 35 to 25% for tris last year.

Sorry Zman, the information from the mutual room stated that it was raised from 29% to 35% recently. The letter they read was from Kevin Decker addressed to the PA Racing Commission on State Street in Harrisburg.

I am still waiting for a reply from Pokie as to whether the 25% rate is still in place or did they in fact return to the 35% rate.

In that case I stand corrected.

And why just boycott Meadows trifecta wagers? Everyone oughta boycott it period.

Upon further review, I found out via the USTA that said letter was early in 2010. They would not give an exact date but have confirmed the raise from 29% to 35% started in the spring of 2010. Like I stated earlier, it was only through the interview by John grupp of the Tribune Review that I learned of this. We have narrowed down to the spring of 2010, so in a little over a year, the word has finally reached the bettors. I too, stand corrected.
