First I'd like to address Michael. I think Into Mischief was bet down because there were 7 horses in the pool out of that sire. Opened at 8-1 so was bet down. I usually just play exacta boxes in these early pools, where I can get the most coverage and still some value. I boxed Gun Runner, Into Mischief and Bolt D'oro in an exacta. It covers 13 horses from the pool and will pay between $100 to $700 depending on the combination. I also did play Uncle Mo straight up because I felt there was value there being Arabian Knight (bafferts horse) is out of uncle mo and if he makes it to the derby, based on what we have seen, he would probably be the favorite. I think it closed at 13-1 from the opening line of 4-1. I also played an exacta key in the regular pool with the "all others" on top of Champion Dream, Signator and Tapit's Conquest. Coupled with the 3 horses I used in Pool#1, I have action on 19 horses that are listed in pool #2 as well as all baffert horses and 25 other sires who are listed in the sire pool but have no entries listed in the regular pool. It's all about coverage.
