The Uni-party runs the show, both old guard democrats and republicans. When it comes to Mitch and company, they are quite happy with how things are currently run and the "benefits" they get. If you understand this perspective, you will understand why BOTH sides want to get rid of Trump (and his America-first agenda) permanently. He and his movement represent an real threat to present club and their way of maintaining power over the people and financially enriching themselves.
Mitch loves being the head of the MINORITY. Then he has the excuse that he never has enough votes to get anything done for the people. He also has a significant number of neo-cons he can work with to broker deals with the Dems when they need some cross-the-isle votes.
