But it was Blame who got their first, though Stall admitted he was nervous in the closing yards.

“He shoved Lookin At Lucky out of the way at the quarter pole, and then I picked up Zenyatta between the three-sixteenths and the eighth pole, and that’s when I started doing the lean,” Stall said. “He galloped out in front. Once he saw her, she never got by him.”

I absolutely love that quote. "I started doing the lean". Awesome.
Blame did indeed bull his way through, which amounted to more trouble than Z encountered. From my vantage point, she enjoyed a nearly pristene in-to-out trip. It's a good thing that Stall, by the way, was watching for himself rather than listening to the call, otherwise he would have thought that Z and L A L (the CALIFORNIA horses) were the only animals in with a shot. I thought it was an abysmal and biased call. Blame never LOOKED like a loser from the second he kicked it in on the turn, but he was mentioned too late and somewhat reluctantly by the announcer. Shame on that.
