I think you are the one who doesn’t understand. The first question is who initiated this voting system in Alaska. Republicans control both the state house and state Senate. And they control the Governorship. Could it be they passed this law?
As for the election itself, it is completely irrelevant that the TWO Republican candidates got 63% of the vote. Had this been a regular election with three people on the ballot, Peltola would have won because she had more votes than the second person and certainly more than the third.
Thirty six percent of the voters who voted for Begich chose Mary Peltola over the other Republican. Republicans chose a Democrat over a Republican. What does that tell you about Sara Palin?
And that 15% who did not indicate a second Choice? If they had done so in the proportion as those who did so indicate, Palin would still have lost by 3,000 votes.
