Good points about the distance and I appreciate the insights.
My (faulty) logic was running that it was unlikely that essentially all the trainers didn't haven't a clue as to whether their horses could run the distance. I know it's always a crapshoot till they run but it seems like in a full field like that at least 2 or 3 of the trainers should have had a pretty good clue that their horse was truly (or at least likely) to have been up to the task. Simply not the case as it turns out.
