The Nazi's had laws, too. That doesn't mean Nazi laws were legitimate. It just means they had the power to enforce them.
People of high moral character understood this and did what was right. The ends justified the means.
The actions of Oskar Schindler come to mind. He was a member of the Nazi party, but he certainly broke the law by saving thousands of Polish Jews.
Just because the U.S. is acting legally, (if it is), does not mean it is acting morally.
